this is actually wrong. the correct figure is 63 goals.
2 goals were scored by messi during 2008 Olympics (one against Ivory Coast & the other against Netherlands).
these 2 are never considered. if friendlies can be considered, wonder why olympics is not.

Aguero plays his first game for Sampaoli and scores the winner. Must be curtains for Higuain then.
Could have won 3-0 or above. Had 20 shots with 8 on target too.
    Impressed by Salvio. Good game.

Gabriel Batistuta: 'I was annoyed Lionel Messi broke my Argentina scoring record... but at least I was beaten by an extraterrestrial!'

Enough ...except against Germany...more than the performance it's the mental block causing the problem vs the Germans
Since Messi is not playing Sampaoli to unleash Aguero - Dybala combo and it will work for sure

Nov 1. Sergio Aguero scores his 178th Manchester City all-time record-breaking goal against Napoli in San Paolo, a city & stadium where Diego Maradona had left a legacy.
Nov 18. Sergio Aguero scores his 35th Argentina goal against Russia thereby overcoming Diego Maradona's 34 goal record to become 3rd highest scorer for his country.
