there was a movie adaptation that turned out to be a flop. read somewhere darren aronofsky is preparing the script for his next movie. darren's characters are mostly addicts of some nature. howard roark's addiction will be a pleasure to watch.

hmm. for the aged roark, first choice would be mark ruffalo. it not, then colin farrell. dominique would be diane kruger. the arrogance and sarcasm of that role. and peter keating would be tom hardy. i know tom hardy might seem awkward, but there is this movie 'Mad Dog and Glory'. it is produced by martin scorcese. there is robert de niro and bill murray. the story is about a the friendship between a ruthless gangster and a shy newspaper photographer. the funny thing is, for the zillion crime that he has played a gangster, here de niro is the mild mannered, shy character. and my, he just owned the movie. so, it would be a treat to watch hardy portray in his vulnerable best. spacey as toohey, that's a good one. then there is wynand. for their younger roles, there is this young actor, philip ettinger, who would do a good howard roark.

what's your take on dravidian psyche? is it raw and uncultured. open to desires. open to expressing those wanton greed. are we now struggling to blanket our psyche with the moral dictates of the society we live in? or is it just a word concocted by authors and there is no element to it.

the reason i asked is, recently read a memoir by scriptwriter john paul where he talks about the thinking process of himself, padmarajan, bharathan, mohan, kg george and the contemporaries. in that, he mentions about this dravidian psyche. he claims padmarajan and bharathan had strong notions about the psyche which basically dealt with raw human greed, emotions came only after. he says it had to do with our geography and the food that this land produced. it was this blend of the dravidian psyche with emotions (rathinirvedham, chatta, lorry, phayalvan, peruvazhiyambalam, irakal, randu penkutikal) that immediately struck a chord with the audience. he says rural tamil cinema still holds strong to it. also that, kg george mixed the travancore-christian culture into this same psyche in his films. now that you mention it, evolutionary psychology is something i should check out.
