We all have an idea about what to expect from a B Unni movie. But here we had some hopes, since Script was not written by Unni. Also makers set the expectations straight in advance - This is a fun masala movie and do not expect anything else. I do love Masala movies, hence thought with Ukri's script might be this will work out. Also teaser gave all the hints of a Fun Masala movie.
Now coming to the movie. Movie is set in a village in Palakkad. A gang of people who kind of adopted the village after Floods are the caretakers of the village now. Pretty predictable there itself that these guys will have a flashback story. Acceptable for that to be predictable. Then the stage is set for the entry of our Hero. Part of these intro scenes we have already seen in the Teaser / Songs. So we kind of missed that WOW factor for the intro since we have already seen it. An okayish intro which is not to the Masala movies standards. First Half is a roller coaster ride with some funny moments working out and some falling flat in front of the viewers. Lal is good in some scenes but lot of overacting in other scenes. Overall a mixed first half with an okayish Interval Punch. Siddiques Comic Police officer was a show spoiler in this first half. Might be they should have put somebody else in this role, since difficult to accept Siddique in that role.
Second Half as we all expect has to go into the story and real intentions of Neyattinkara Gopan and why he landed in that village. All of us know there will be a flash back. Unlike First Half, Second Half is not a mixed bag. Second Half constantly delivers bad scenes after bad scenes. Flash back revealing the story and intentions and all turns out to be damp squib. Horrible second half which makes the viewers feel why this crap is not ending. Tail end is anoher horrible scene in a horrible getup.
Positives
Energetic Lal and some scenes done well
Negatives
Will be a long list.
Overall Summary - Avoidable Funtainer by any standards. Editing-um Film making-um onnum padichittilla. Adhu kondu paranjadhu thettayi poyenkil kshamickanam.
Vaalkashanam - See lot of people comparing it with Shylock. There are obvious reason for the same since hero in both movies uses other movie dialogues. But what makes Shylock different is the mannerisms in which Mam has presented that role. Mam has done umpteen Mass movies in his career, but you can still see a difference in the way he has handled the Mass scenes in Shylock. Mass scenes in Shylock except for Flash back will be thoroughly enjoyed by Fans and some neutrals. So by any yardstick Shylock is much better is what I feel.
Rating - 2/5
