Chelsea fans took a break from their usual baiting of Gerrard to afford him a standing ovation on his late substitution.

But the 34-year-old said: “I was more happy with the ovation from the Liverpool fans.

"The Chelsea fans showed respect for a couple of seconds for me but slaughtered me all game so I’m not going to get drawn into wishing the Chelsea fans well.

“It’s nice of them to turn up for once today. But yeah, the standing ovation from a stadium is always nice but what’s important to me is the Liverpool fans and they have been there since day one.”

Arsene Wenger has once more said that he wants to keep Theo Walcott as the England international heads towards the ‘golden years’ of his career, but suggested that if he does leave the club it won’t be an issue of disloyalty.

“I don’t think his desire is to leave.”

One of your realistic targets i guess. surely will come down to playing time rather than money.
