‘Chillar Party’ is as sweet a film that might even give you diabetes. An unsoiled motion picture that touches hearts and connects that chord which you have left behind in today’s rapid life. Co-producing the film is definitely one of the best decisions of Salman’s life. A film that makes you sit back and think that life is simple and it’s us who have complicated it. ‘Chillar Party’ definitely teaches quite a few lessons in life.
The film is about Chillar Party’s (the kids in Mumbai’s Chandan society) fight with their elders and a local minister for their friend, a stray dog Bhidu. For this combat they also do a Chaddi March that is pretty much a synonym to Gandhiji’s ‘Dandi March’ and face the wrath of the Minister. This stray dog is their society’s car washer Fatka’s (Irrfan Khan) best friend and the minister has passed a law to create a fear free Mumbai by killing or throwing all stray dogs out of Mumbai’s Border.
Kudos to the writers and directors of the film Vikas Bahl and Nitesh Tiwari to take up this sensitive subject and make a powerful film that not only impresses but leaves a strong impact in our hearts and minds! The film starts with a profound introduction of all the lil superstars of the film that makes you love them from the beginning. There is Jhangya who hates wearing his chaddi, encyclopedia who is the mastermind of the group, Akram the pace bowler of their team, Second hand who always gets things already used by his elder brother, silencer who never utters a word et al.
Thereon the film is a collage of subtle messages like love one and all, team spirit, no one’s big or small, a friend in need is a friend indeed and many many more. The sequences are very well executed and the climax will make you really feel proud of the kids. Their determination portrayed in the film is commendable and another addition to the array of messages. Performances were all flawless, the kids are nothing less than superstars and are their natural selves in the film, adorable and enchanting, and they enthrall you throughout.
The elders and the shrewd have also done a decent job. A cherry on top was Ranbir’s item number in the end. Amit Trivedi’s music is soothing and the background score makes the sequences even more impactful. Screenplay, Editing, cinematography are just perfect. There is nothing that you cannot like about the film. It impresses at all intervals and is definitely a must watch for one and all.
