Of late, we have seen a few hardcore villains in Malayalam films gradually undergoing an image change and transforming into comedians. It all started way back, when Janardhanan, the veteran actor who had done villain roles in several films tried his hand at comedy and emerged successful. How could we forget Rajan P Dev, who had given life to several villainous characters, but who had also given comedy a try!
Perhaps no other actor who has been repeatedly cast as a villain has enjoyed as much acceptance as a comedian, as Baburaj. The actor who has been seen in so many films as the police officer, and a real bad one at that, threw a big surprise at all of us with his classic act as the cook in Aashiq Abu’s ‘Salt ‘n Pepper’. Ever since Baburaj has been seen in several comedy roles, all of which have been lapped up by the audience.
We also saw Bheeman Raghu attempting comedy and even saw him in drag in one film! Not something that you would expect from an actor who has always specialized in playing roles that would make you squirm in your seats. And the latest villain entrant to the comedy brigade is none other than Abu Salim who was seen in a light hearted role in the film ‘Mayamohini’.
Is it that these actors have had enough of their villain avatars? Or is it that they are lured by the public acceptance that is much greater for comedians than villains? Or is it merely that the performers within them are excited about putting their own potentials to test? Whatever be the case, these villains-turned-comedians are here to stay!

പിന്നീട് ‘മമ്മി ആന്*റ് മി’ എന്ന പക്കാ കുടുംബചിത്രമാണ് ജീത്തു ജോസഫ് ഒരുക്കിയത്. നായികാപ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള സിനിമയായിട്ടും അത് സൂപ്പര്*ഹിറ്റായി. നീണ്ട ഇടവേളയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം ‘മൈ ബോസ്’ എന്ന സിനിമയുമായി ജീത്തു വരികയാണ്.
മൈ ബോസ് ഒരു കോമഡിച്ചിത്രമാണ്. മുംബൈ ആസ്ഥാനമായ ഐ ടി കമ്പനിയിലെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനും അയാളുടെ ലേഡി ബോസും തമ്മിലുള്ള സവിശേഷമായ ബന്ധം രസകരമായി പറയുകയാണ് ഈ സിനിമ. ദിലീപ് ഒരു സോഫ്റ്റുവെയര്* എഞ്ചിനീയറായും മം*മ്ത അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്*റെ ബോസായും അഭിനയിക്കുന്നു.

സിദ്ദാര്*ത്ഥ് ഭരതന്* സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത ‘നിദ്ര’ എന്ന ചിത്രം ബോക്സോഫീസില്* ഹിറ്റായില്ല. നിരൂപക പ്രശംസ നേടി. നല്ല സിനിമയായിട്ടും എന്തുകൊണ്ട് സിനിമ ഹിറ്റായില്ല എന്ന ചോദ്യത്തിന് സിനിമാ പണ്ഡിറ്റുകള്* ഉത്തരം തേടുകയാണ്. മനു എന്ന ചെറുപ്പക്കാരന്*റെ ശാപമാണ് സിനിമയെ വീഴ്ത്തിയതെന്ന് മല്ലുവുഡില്* ചിലര്* അടക്കം പറയുന്നു.
മനുവിനെ അറിയില്ലേ? ടൂര്*ണമെന്*റ് എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലൂടെ ശ്രദ്ധേയനായ നടന്*. ടൂര്*ണമെന്*റിലെ മനുവിന്*റെ പ്രകടനത്തെ ഏവരും അഭിനന്ദിച്ചു. ഉടന്* തന്നെ ‘നിദ്ര’ എന്ന സിനിമയിലേക്ക് തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു.

Actor Unni Mukundan, who replaced actor Prithviraj in Mallu Singh, feels it is unfair to let one upcoming film decide what stand he will take in the industry
The pressure is building up for Mollywood actor Unni Mukundan, who everybody seems to flag off as the next big thing in the industry. The young actor, however, feels it is unfair to have such high expectations from just one project.
"I am at a very special phase of my career, but it does turn out to be a bit unnerving at times. I have had people telling me that this one will be my make-or-break film. That is unfair when you look at the larger picture. It's not like my entire career depends on one film. It can get to you if you are constantly being reminded of what people are expecting from you," says the actor.
The hype about the film soared when Unni replaced Mollywood star Prithviraj in the title role. The film is also scheduled for release at around the same time Prithviraj's film Hero hits the screens. Unni will also have to battle it out with actor Dulquer Salmaan's Usthad Hotel.
