I won’t let them ruin my career
Actress Haripriya insists it is jealousy that has landed her in the recent controversy
Asha Prakash
It’s been a taxing month for South actress Haripriya, who found herself in the midst of a controversy recently. Her house was raided, thanks to her alleged closeness to B S Vijayendra, son of former Karnataka chief minister Yeddyurappa. However, the actress, who was in town to promote her latest Malayalam film, feels it is a group of people from the Kannada film industry, who may have been responsible in framing her.
“This is the work of a few people in the Kannada film industry, who are jealous of the kind of work that I have managed to do. They can’t digest the fact that I’m getting to work in all four South Indian film industries. It can’t be anyone from the other three industries, as people here have only encouraged me and are happy to see me grow as an actress,” says Haripriya.
Hoping to leave the issue behind her soon, Haripriya says, “It’s strange how all kinds of rumours crop up just when it is time for films to hit the screens. For instance, in Sandalwood, I have a film with Srinagar Kitty coming up soon. My Malayalam film has also hit the screens. Though, once I am done with my promotional tours, I will consult my family on the course of action to be taken regarding the controversy. My friends and family know me and therefore know the truth. They are my source of support and strength,” says Haripriya, who is expected to spend a lot more time in Kerala soon as she shoots for Malayalam film Bhadrasanam. Her Kannada films include Sagar, Super Shastri, Nande and Manjina Hani. With her signing another Telugu film, the actress has her hands full.

Actor Bala turns director
... Says he’s out to prove a point with his debut, tentatively titled Hit List
Manu Vipin
Actor-turned-director Bala is working overtime these days. Through his directorial debut, tentatively titled Hit List, Bala is determined to make a difference. “This is certainly going to be a milestone in my career. I was born into a family which started its association with the film industry decades ago and movies are my life. It has given me financial stability and a celebrity status. The fact that our production company is producing this movie makes it all the more special,” says Bala.
The actor has been part of almost 40 movies in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, yet he feels his talent has not been fully exploited. “I am not satisfied with the kind of roles that I am getting these days. I want to show what I am capable of with this movie, which is going to be entirely different in its treatment,” he says.
However, the change has not been easy, says the actor. “It is only after you turn director that you realise how pampered one is as an actor. It is so much more hectic now, I am busy 24x7. These days I get to sleep just three hours a day,” says Bala.
Bala promises to take cinema to the next level with this film. “The movie will, of course, have action sequences, a love story, songs and lot of suspense. Yet there will be a novelty in its treatment. Even the stunt sequences will be more rugged and realistic. The movie is going to be a twohour chase. This is not a money making business for me. I leave all that to destiny and God. When I planned this project I thought I will have a big launch. But later I thought I will concentrate on the work and not in creating any hype,” he says.
With big names like Prithviraj and Unni Mukundan making a guest appearance, Bala insists that they are in the movie not just for the star value. “I have not included any element that is not integral to the movie.” Kannada actor Dhruv and Aishwarya Devan play pivotal roles in the film.
