Ever since Salman Khan’s Mental went on the floors, speculation has been rife over its release date. First it was said that Khan would deliver another blockbuster during Eid this year. But, later, word was that the film had been slotted for October 2, and then November 29. The latest is that it will release on January 14, 2014.
But Khan, who will break the tradition by missing an Eid release this year, will make sure he keeps his date with the festival next year. His next film, Kick, being produced and directed by Sajid Nadiadwala, is expected to go on the floors in August and release during Eid 2014.
PS: If Salman Khan’s fans will miss him this year for not having a single release, they will be treated to three releases next year – apart from Mental and Kick, he has another venture up his sleeve for 2014.

Sohail Khan responds to rumours of a Salman-less 2013, says he is racing against time to release Mental.
After a trade paper reported that Salman Khan-starrer Mental will release on January 14, there was surprise, shock and disappointment over the fact that 2013 would be a 'Salman-less' year.
This is not quite the truth. Producer-director Sohail Khan is in fact rushing against the clock to complete Mental before year-end.
On the rumours of the delayed release, Sohail benignly retorts, "Why do you want my film to be delayed? Hopefully, we'll be releasing it this year. But I am not rushing. I'll come when I'm ready."
While Sohail clammed up after that a member of his Mental crew revealed, "We are currently shooting for a three-week schedule in Lavasa near Pune. This schedule goes on for another two weeks. Salman bhai is keen that the film release this year. He has told Sohail bhai to ensure there is no delay."
Apparently, the few weeks that were lost because of Salman's medical trip to the US would be compensated for. Says the source, "We are going to release it this year. Salman bhai won't have it any other way."

Salman Khan's Mental suffers Rs.25 crore loss
Producer-director Sohail Khan and actor Salman Khan's forthcoming film Mental seems to have hit a hurdle, as the movie already has incured a loss of Rs.25 crore due to a tiff between stuntmen from Mumbai and those from the South.
Sohail had hired a leading South Indian fight master for the film and sources claim that as per the All India Film Employees Confederation (AIFEC), 70% of the fighters have to be from the Hindi film industry and the remaining 30% from the region of the fight master. But fighters from the South refused to shoot, demanding 50% of their men be hired for the action scenes.

A leading tabloid quoted a source as saying, "The unit had to return within a week even though it was a 15-day schedule in Kolhapur because the fighters refused to shoot. There was another schedule in Lavasa, which was a continuity sequence from a Dubai shoot, that needed the same fighters. There too, the Film Employees' Federation of South India (FEFSI) refused to send their stuntmen."
The tabloid quoted another source- Dharmesh Tiwari, President of AIFEC, saying,"The FEFSI is not ready to follow the rule passed in March 2013, and they are forcing the producer to take 50% of their fighters."
This disturbing turn of events has forced several filmmakers to replace South Indian action directors with local ones

Salman Khan: Five Films And 1200 Crore
Salman Khan at the moment is on the best run that a leading male actor has ever seen. His last five films have a combined total close to the 1200 crore gross mark worldwide.
It is the first time that an actor has given five blockbusters in a row although it must also be said that it is easier today to give bigger hits as business is all about initial week so star power takes a film a long way where as 20 years ago films had to run for twenty five weeks to be blockbusters and 40 years ago it was a fifty week run that made a film a blockbuster.
