You are right. Spain uses their full backs to use the width of the pitch rather than the wingers. If Puyol was there as the centre back along with Pique , then Ramos could have attacked more as the right full back in the same way Jordi Alba does on the left side. Then there would not have been a need to bring some one like Navas as a substitute. They could have tried Llorente as a striker(atleast for 20-30 minutes) with crosses from Ramos and Alba.

Anyway it is not as big a fact as Germany . Because Germany is historically a team with great record whereas Spain doesn't have such a great record historically.

This great Italian record is a concern for both Germany and Spain.
The best chance to oust Italy was in the group stage . Historically it had been like that. But Spain and Croatia missed a golden opportunity to oust them.

It is very very very diffficult to beat Italy in a knock out match.
May be the toughest task in Football.

Torres as a starter & Llorente as a sub is the best choice..next kaliyil Pedro/Cesc should start instead of Silva..
