As the Jeethu Joseph directed thriller Memories is getting a real thumbs up from film buffs actor Prithviraj must be relishing his extended purple patch. A taut thriller that Memories is, becomes all the more enjoyable due to the remarkably measured and controlled enactment of the protagonist Sam Alex by this young star. Prithvi has done many police characters in his career, but this one stands out on many counts. The plot of Memories evolves through the mind of Sam Alex and only an actor of real mettle could have given the character of thischronic alcoholic haunted by a painfulpast, an air of convincing believability. The success of Memories following the critical and commercial appraisal of Mumbai Police is a real shot in the arm for thisactor who has made a strong comeback after a comparative lull in his career an year or so back. Motivated and condemnable personalattacks bordering on character assassination through social media seems to have spurred this talented actor into top gear.Amid the hype and hoopla surrounding the so called new generation wave in Malayalam cinema,Prithviraj stands out as an actor who could be part of all genres of movies with equal poise. As the new brand of actors revel in those movies which have a distinct colour and flavour, it is heartening to see Prithviraj doing wonderfully well in movies having conventional trappings. A thinking man's actor Prithviraj may have caused consternation to some due to his attitude of speaking out. The way he carried himself around might have been wrongly construed by some as a mark of arrogance. But self belief being a precious commodity, those lacking it may be excused for harbouring such wrong notions.Anyway Prithviraj is not complaining as his movies are now speaking for himself. His aspiration of being the brand ambassador of Malayalam cinema may bear fruit in the future if his rejuvenated career continues to surge like this. With a lot of interesting movies on the anvil in different languages Prithviraj looks set for the next stage in his eventful career.
