Rajini is the uncrowned emperor
http://entertainment.oneindia.in/img...7_27122007.jpg
Superstar Rajini's Shivaji emerged as the solo winner at end of the year 2007! Rajini has once again proved himself as the uncrowned emperor of Tamil cinema through his film's amazing distributor's profit share of Rs 8 crores (For Chennai only, excluding the investment of Rs 6.2 cr.) at the end of the 175th day of Shivaji. The overseas distributors of the film have enjoyed a never ever profit share earned by Sivaji.
According to a report in one of the India's respected dailies Financial Express dated 25.12.2007, Shivaji-The Boss is the most searched film in Google search engine. It is amazing that even Spiderman-3 is placed in second after Shivaji! (Film Shivaji: 586000, Spiderman- 3: 443000 as on 26th Dec.2007 ) This is enough to prove the excitement and popularity of our own Superstar worldwide!
First time in the 90 years old Indian cinema, a South Indian film attracted national as well as international viewers even without the need of sub titles. The Superstar's action-colourful dance packed Blockbuster has hit worldwide screens on June 15 th in 2 languages (Tamil and Telugu) in 1400 plus screens across 28 countries. In India, only 700 prints of Shivaji were released against 450 of Rajini's previous Blockbuster Chandramukhi!
Almost all the producers were stopped their films for a couple of months to avoid a collision with this giant. In UK, the movie entered the Box Office and earned about an average of £ 14,000 per screen, the highest ever for an Indian film and the first South Indian movie to enter UK Top 10 (#9), a real big recognition for Tamil movies in international market. In USA, Shivaji was released in 24 theaters with 19 more added subsequently for the Tamil version and 21 theaters ran the Telugu version.
The audio of Shivaji has also created many records in the industry. Within just a couple of days, there are 150000 mobile users downloaded the soundtracks of Shivaji and helped the producers to earn Rs.5 cr!
According to the official press release of AVM, the film has celebrated 100 days in 112 theaters and silver jubilee in 7 theaters including 3 in abroad!
So far AVM productions has not revealed any official information about the collection, the Box Office websites quoted that the film has so far collected Rs.160 crores worldwide against the Superstar's previous record of Rs.100 crores in Chandramukhi!
Talking to our Special Correspondent, SC Babu, CEO of AVM agreed the record collection of Sivaji. He said, "Yes, there is no second opinion about the historical worldwide collection of our Superstar Rajini sir's Sivaji, produced by legendary film house AVM. But I'm not in the position of disclosing the exact data at present..."
Anyhow, Shivaji opened a new Royal gate to the Tamil films in global market and brought the industry in to the limelight. The quality and big opening of Shivaji forced even the non Tamil film distributors too to distribute Tamil films in global market
Nayantara's rates hike up after 'Billa'
http://cinesouth.com/images/new/2912...HN13image2.jpg
After the success of 'Billa,' Nayantara's fee has gone up.
Not only in politics, but in cinema too, one can see overnight transformations. Now Nayantara is being flooded with film offers and high fees.
After breaking up with Simbu, Nayantara concentrated on her career. She became a super hit in Telugu films, much to the apprehension of the Telugu heroines. Her Telugu film 'Lakshmi' was such a hit that it is being re-made in Tamil.
After her ultra glam role in 'Billa,' demand for Nayantara has rocketed and directors are waiting in line to sign up this beauty whose rate has been 25 to 30 lakhs.
One has to make hay when the sun shines, so Nayan is said to have doubled her fees. She is ready to give her call sheet to producers who can cough up 60 to 70 lakhs per film for her.
The old rate holds good only for Dhanush's 'Yaardai Nee Mohini' and Vishal's 'Sathyam.' The fee Nayantara is sdemanding after 'Billa' is equal to what it costs to make a low budget film!
Jeevan adamant on Asin, Trisha
http://cinesouth.com/images/new/2912...HN14image1.jpg
Jeevan has the luck to frolic with 4 to 5 heroines in each of his films. Now a director is having a hard time trying to sign on heroines he likes.
Debut making director Vijay is directing 'Payanigal Gavanithirkku.' The whole story takes place in trains and Jeevan is the hero. The director is hassled as the heroines have not yet been finalized and the hero is the cause for this.
This film follows the tradition of Tamil cinema where the hero has all the importance. The heroine is supposed to get only 15 scenes to show her talent. So, 70% of the scenes have been shot, except those featuring the heroine.
When the director decided to hunt for the heroine, Jeevan suggested that Trisha or Asin as heroine would be attractive and this has put the poor man in a fix.
Since the importance for the heroine is so less, it would b difficult to get Trisha or Asin to accept the role. Moreover, the film's budget cannot accommodate the rates these heroines demand.
Despite these troubles bothering the director and producer, Jeevan seems adamant in wanting only Trisha or Asin to play the heroine role.
What spoilt boy behavior!
`Bheema` censored!

Good News for Kollywood on the first day of the New Year- ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram’s long-in-the making, Lingusamy directed Bheema has been censored on December 31 evening by the regional censor board in Chennai.
The censor board has issued an “A” certificate to Bheema for some “violent scenes essential to the theme of the film”. But nobody is complaining as those who saw the film say it is going to be a “landmark movie, technically chic with stunning story telling.”
Late on Monday night, Vikram speaking from an undisclosed location somewhere deep in a forest area in south India, where he is celebrating his New Year with family and friends, told sify.com: “ I’m the happiest man in the world, as another New Year dawns on us and hearing the news that Bheema has been censored. I have always been telling you that Bheema is going to be an awesome movie.”
A corporate is in the final stages of a negotiating a deal with producer A.M Ratnam for releasing Bheema this Pongal. Now let us hope that A.M Ratnam will call for a meeting with his creditors and sort out all the financial issues regarding the film in the next couple of days.
We at sify.com hope that Bheema will finally make it to the screens on Friday, January 11 to get the full benefit of the long Pongal weekend.

We have got together our list of top five heroes, from actors who had releases this year. The ratings are based simply on the stars popularity and box-office performances, across the world where Kollywood has a presence.
Numero uno Hero- Rajnikanth
Reason.- It was a cakewalk and even a child who follows Kollywood would tell you that superstar Rajnikanth has tremendous charisma cutting across continents, age, and gender and is evergreen. No other hero in world cinema has for so many years remained in the number one slot. People come just to watch his on-screen magic and not the film! By the way the total entertainer had a release this year Sivaji, directed by Shankar which as usual became the years highest grosser!
Plus Point- Terrific screen presence, super opening and great reach across the planet.
Minus Point- Nothing really except his reluctance to experiment with his formula.
Number 2- Vijay :salut: :salut:
Reason - He is 50 percent of the superstar and is clear number two in Tamilnadu and overseas, where he is the darling of Sri Lankan Tamils and the King in Kerala. He is trades favourite hero after Rajnikanth in Tamilnadu as his films have good penetration in B & C. He dances like a dream, does comedy and action scenes as proved by his blockbuster hit of the year Pokkiri.
Plus Point- A steady opener who is commercially viable and has more hits than his competitors and knows the pulse of the common mass cinema viewer.
Minus Point- Has not been able to penetrate Andhra’s lucrative dubbing market
Number 3- Ajit
Reason - Just one film Billa established once again that he is the `king of opening`. The film cemented his place in the superstar race. He is the industry’s best opener after Rajnikanth, but has not been able to sustain due to his city slicker image. Like his immediate competitor, he is not hot in Andhra dubbing market, and needs to improve in B & C stations.
Plus Point- Till Billa, his films have been sold on a reasonable rate ensuring that return on investment are quick and a loyal fan base.
Minus Point- Lack of content in his films, essential to get more eyeballs especially in rural market.
Number 4- Surya
Reason- He is doing a mixture of up-market and totally down-market movies and somewhere along the line it is selling. His transformation from a city hero to a mass hero has been complete with the B-grade Vel turning out to be a super hit. The actor has also proved that he has his own niche audiences who swear by him.
Plus Point- Good image which has worked to his advantage and a keen business sense.
Minus Point- Doing too many endorsements which have resulted in overexposure on television. Lost the Andhra market by dubbing a film like Vel which was a poor copy of a Telugu film!
Number 5- Dhanush
Reason- After doing a dumb flop movie like Parattai which showed him as a larger than life hero, he bounced back with Polladhavan which was closer to the image that audiences have in their mind about him. The audiences love him in the role of the good-for-nothing guy next door, an ordinary chap who against all odds triumphs in the last reel due to his sincerity and hard work.
Plus Point- Willing to experiment and goes with his gut feeling and the trouble he takes to make his movies believable.
Minus Point- At times especially after a hit turns lazy and goes back to his old ways. He has to remember that to remain at the top is constant hard work and reinvention.
Films ready for Pongal release
Along with sugarcane and sweet pongal, a whole list of films are getting ready to cheer you this Pongal.
Films released during Deepavli or Pongal are special in their own way. Earlier, at least a dozen films would hit the screen, but now it's a wonder if half a dozen films make it to theatres.
In competition with big banners, many smaller budget films make brave talk about releasing at the same time during a festival season, but at the last minute, they usually back out tamely.
Sometimes the small budget films release in the hope that those who did not get tickets for the big releases, would come to see their film. That is a comedy in itself. At other times, these small budget films with new actors put the big banners behind and rake in great profits. So unexpected reactions and results end in comic situations all around.
About 10 films are in the race for this Pongal.
Vikram's 'Bhima,' 'Simbu's 'Kaalai,' Bharath's 'Pazhani,' Madhavan's 'Vaazhthukkal,' Sathyaraj's 'Thangam,' Jayam Ravi's 'Dhaam Dhoom,' Vikranth's 'Nenjathai Killadhe' and Prashanth's 'Pulan Visaranai 2' are said to be definite releases.
Final work is also being done for films 'Indiralogathil Na Azhagappan,' 'Vellithirai,' 'Vedha,' 'Vaitheeswaran,' 'Anjaadhey' and 'Ayudham Seivom.'
Which will leap and which will cower, will be seen only at the last minute!
Bheema  Dont know whether it will release on the same day in kerala too
