Sania crashes out of French Open!
It was always going to be a tough match for Sania. She was facing seventh
seed Ana Ivanovic, a player who is most comfortable on Clay.
And it showed in the straight set 1-6, 4-6 loss.
First Set
After thoroughly beaten by Sanias two rasping cross-court forehand winners in the first game of the match, Ivanovic wisely shifted the attack to the Indians backhand and it paid rich dividends when Sania lost her first service game at love. In just ten minutes, the Indian was down 0-3.
She was broken again in a hard fought sixth game, and at 1-5, the first set for Ivanovic was just a formality. The Serbian fittingly ended the set at 6-1 with an ace.
In the first set, Ivanovics dominance was evident in the fact that her first serve win percentage was 76 compared to Sanias 45. Even on second serve, she won 50 per cent of the points compared to Sanias 29. That Sania made just four unforced errors in the first set, which was over in just 23 minutes, shows that she was never given too much leeway on the forehand side, and most of the time ended up playing defensively from the backhand.
Second Set
The second set saw the Indian providing a stiffer competition, winning the very first game after a hard fought battle. Again in the fifth game, she overcame a 0-30 deficit to make it 3-2 on serve, and then 4-3.For once it looked that the Indian was rediscovering her lost touch. But the rustiness that has set in due to lack of match play, was evident at critical junctures.
At 4-4, Sania made four unforced errors to lose the ninth game. Ivanovic gave her no second chance as she served out for the match. In the end, the gap between a top-ten and a top-50 player proved too much to bridge. Sania failed to get a single breakpoint on Ivanovic serve, which turned out to be the huge difference.

Bhupathi, Paes advance!
The unseeded pair of Indian star Mahesh Bhupathi and Czech Radek Stepanek brought about an upset of sorts in the mens doubles when they cruised past the Polish 12th seeded pair of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski 6-4, 6-0 in the first set. They will take on Guillermo Garcia Lopez (Spain) and Filippo Volandri (Italy) in the next round.
Meanwhile, the third seeded Indo-Czech pair of Leander Paes and Martin Damm quelled the challenge of local hopes Jeremy Chardy and Jonathan Eysseric 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2) to advance to the second round of French Open here.
Paes and Damm were stretched by the local combination but the experienced Indo-Czech duo ultimately prevailed over them yesterday. The third seeds were hardly impressive and wasted several opportunities during their patchy display. They could convert just one break point out of 10 that came their way. Paes and Damm will next take on the winners of the match between Michael Kohlmann and Rainer Schuettler of Germany and the Russian-Chilean pair of Teimuraz Gabashvili and Nicolas Massu.

Jankovic puts end to Venus hopes!
Fourth seed Jelena Jankovic beat former world number one Venus Williams 6-4 4-6 6-1 to reach the fourth round of the French Open for the first time.Williams began typically slowly and the Serbian broke in the opening game, which was enough to take the first set.The American 26th seed played more aggressively and cut out the unforced errors in the second set as the match developed into an absorbing struggle. But Jankovic, 22, struck at 1-1 in the decider and then broke again to win.
