its 2 years late....yes, that is right. Proper recognition for renjith's creation did not happen in 2008, when his movie 'thirakadha' was released. A movie which should have easily become a sure hit, remained questinable at the box office. Though the reviewer does not share the same high regards for 'paleri manikyam' (because of the violence and the forced upon triple role), with 'prachiyettan and the saint', renjith breaks all gaps, barriers.

A simple story about the qwest of an uneducated businessman to gain fame, in which he fails time and again, but later understands through the experiences of others that its not all about winning and being famous.
The flow of the narrative is exemplory.performances are memorable. Mammotty as c e francis (pranchi) lives the role to the hilt from accent to dressing to mentality and body language. Its all there. Ganapathy, priyamani, khushbu, innocent, siddique and the saint all are memorable. Many people compared it to 'nandanam,'3 idiots' and also 'lage raho munnbhai'. Sorry to say but such comparisons all seem product of poor imagination to say the least.

Superb direction, writing, apt camera and music.... The movie does not have anything that goes sour. Perhaps the only thing one feels not convincing is the murder scene by biju menon... Seemed a bit hurried through.

Let there be no doubts, that 10 years down the line, 'pranchiyettan and the saint' is going to be regarded as a classic for that generation. Thanks to renjith, malayalam cinema is definetely back to its golden era of the 80s, which showed stories of common people.

A good director can make his vision come true.... But in these times, a great director is one who can not only make his vision come true but also succeed in making his film reach to people and see to it that its accepted..

Even after watching it twice in 2 days, 'pranchiyettan' leaves you with a heartfelt message..

    verdict - simply superb!
    rating - 4/5

pranchiyettan and the saint - the best movie of the recent times, no 2 ways about it :)
