Director Lal Jose's latest movie 'Ayalum Njanum Thammil' is a breed of cinema which is not new to malayalam. It used to exist in the so called golden - era of malayalam movies (80s) and with this movie, Lal Jose brings back the 'Intense Cinema Brand' which Malayalam had forgotten for a while.
But his biggest success lies in the fact that he blends the intensity of the plot with some exquisite screenplay by Sanjay - Bobby and breath taking visuals by Jomon T Jomon and a spectacular performance by Prithviraj to culminate in a good intense drama.
Performance wise, Prathap Pothen is competant and one would feel the admiration towards him. Remya is ok but could have done some scenes better. Samvritha is lovely and painful. Rima is usual. Salim Kumar is the comic relief.
ANT is the journey of self discovery by a main protagonist who happens to be a doctor. That tells the overview of the story.
But Sanjay-Bobby have succeeded in keeping you interested for little over 2 hours with their script and screenplay.
The only negative perhaps of ANT is that it does not have much lighter moments but its even more commendable that it seldom bores you or gets you un-interested. Full credit for that goes to Lal Jose. Ranjan Abraham's Editing also is decent.
With Script and Direction covered, we come to the aspect that made key difference in ANT and thats undoubtedly Jomon's visuals. Breath taking many a times, many a times just soothing, the ambience and the color everything looks awesome. ANT never looses its graph because of Jomon's visual quality and vision.
And now to the final roll.. in perhaps one of the best performance of his career, Prithviraj stands tall and stuns with a spectacular performance as 'Doctor Ravi Tharagan'. His casualness to immaturity to fall, rise and realisation.. Prithviraj puts in the best lead performance of recent times - male and female included. Kudos for being so intense and special!
Songs and Re-recording are good but made soulful again with visuals.
All in all, ANT is a movie worth watching... For its content, lead performance, visuals and direction.
Even though its not comic, its still intense and engaging.
Verdict - Good and Intense
