There are probably 2 moments, during the entire length of 2 hours in 'Chapters', that make you sit up and take notice. One is just before the Interval that show the turn of events and one when Nivin calls his friends 10 minutes before the end of the movie. Apart from these 2 moments, nothing much seems 'exciting', 'interesting' or even 'entertaining' in Debutant Suni Ibrahim's 'Chapters'.
'Chapters' is neither a thriller nor a romance or a comedy or a character study. It just narrates events associated with a few characters. Imagine, the 'play with progression of time' shown at the beginning moments of 'Traffic' and extend it for 2 hours, that is what the screenplay of 'Chapters' attempts to do. And mix to that some predictable routines which we have seen in recent movies, like money that goes around comes around and search for rare items etc. Chaptres is very plain, slow and laborious.
When you look back, probably the positive is that, there are no major goof ups and some decent performances. Nivin and Sreenivasan in that order are the main characters that leave an impression. Nivin plays a very standard role in an apt manner. Its nothing more than his role in 'Malarvadi Arts Club' though. Sreenivasan is competent as usual but we have seen this do an umpteen number of times. Rest of the cast leaves no impression.. It feels like the story of a crowd.
Director and Screen writer Sunil Ibrahim is patchy at best. You can pick and count the portions that will impress you. The movie is low on entertainment as well.
Suprisingly the 2 songs scored by Mejo also do not leave a mark. Cinematography is nothing special but decent. Editing is average.
At best, 'Chapters' can be credited as being something which does not go horrible. Have extremely low expectations and it may be an average movie at best.
Verdict - A Gracious rating of 'Average'.
