Review
--------
Director Vyshakh is well known for his formula entertainers which are based on yesteryear blockbusters. But it’s also to his credit that even though his movies remind of these older movies, they sometimes create an identity of their own. So, after revisiting movies like 'Classmates', 'Punjabi House', 'Hitler', its now turn to revisit 'God father' in his own terms. Vyshak's latest movie 'Sound Thoma' is a not a full fledged comedy, but rather its better to call it a 'Family Drama'. Only 2 things matter the most in the movie 'Sound Thoma' - Vyshakh, the director and Dileep, the lead actor. Both work to a fair extent and that makes it another formula watch.
The first half is quite agile and terse. It does not bore you and the light humor keeps working decently. Even up to the middle of second half, Vyshak has been able to maintain interest levels. That is a good job as usual for him, in this genre. Some scenes are executed with right build up. For example, the crucial community wedding scene. But somewhere towards the middle of the second half, one starts to loose interest. Two twists are kept ready for this area, which work ok, but still the climax drags like a snail. And there is no time to show the tail end scene and so its clubbed with the end credits.
The second factor which works in 'Sound Thoma' is Dileep, as the Village Sooth sayer's son with a cleft lip. Dileep is currently in good form as a commercial actor and his confidence is showing. The effort and the guts to appear no where near his original self, in terms of face and voice, is appreciable. His innocence and happy go lucky character is likable. The 'pronunciation jokes' do work as well but what is sad is the characterization. 'Thoma' does not go down as a memorable role, since its range and growth is very limited. Its merely reduced as a caricature. Now, thats injustice for a brave performer who is giving his heart out on the screen.
Sai Kumar as Thoma's dad is once again impressive. We have seen him as 'father' countless number of times but he still seems to have much intensity left to convince us. Rest of the cast is forgettable. Music is nothing great. Camera and Editing is decent. Title Graphics were nice.
In short, 'Sound Thoma' travels with the formula, as expected. It wont hurt you for the most parts. Keep your expectations low and you could still have a time pass movie with some engaging family drama.

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
