Twisted Game - '7th Day' Review
12/4/14 PVR Lulu
Debutant Director Shyam Dhar's '7th Day' is a twisted game. A game which is not over until the end credits start rolling. Its far from a good movie with lots of gaping loop holes in its script. But it still can manage to interest you or make you discuss about it after its done. Thats the game all about.
First portions are in expected lines. Dark, intriguing and quite interesting. As Prithvi (David Abraham IPS) drives in on the fateful christmas night, he pleasantly reminds of his recently successful dark cop movies. The proceedings are interesting till the flashback arrives. The flashback is long and about for 30 minutes, you dont get to see David in action. Things get to be tad boring here. Post the flashback, the hospital sequence is a lag. By Interval, you get an average feel of a mystery movie.
Second half jolts in to action at a faster pace, which seems a welcome change. At various points different stages of the mystery unravels. David is on the trail and more and more gets unearthed. Through the twisted game, one arrives at the hill top climax. Most of the goodwill until then, gets undone in this quite amateurish climax which is long drawn out. So you are just about to leave the movie with a sour feeling, when the game packs in the last move. Overall, an average movie that can be patchy but is a twisted game.
Prithviraj as 'David Abraham' is the center piece of the movie. He does the role with much charm and elan. By the second half, you may think why did he opt for the movie. But hold on to your guns until you leave the hall. Incase you feel like watching a repeat, the only reason would be 'David Abraham'. The young brigade around whom the story is built have done a decent job especially Tovino and Vinu.
Direction is patchy. It could have been lot better by the climax but still appreciation for trying to create a game our of a movie. Script by Akhil Paul has its ups and downs. It has big holes in logic and so much made convenient, that such issues should not be forgotten easily. Cinematography by ace cameraman Sujith Vassudev is a treat to watch at times. Music is competant. Editing is good in parts.
'7th Day' is not a good movie but it can catch you off gaurd. At best, it can be an average movie with a twist. Thats the least one can say without being a spoiler.
Verdict - Twisted
Rating - 2.5/5

Thanks Critic..its the movie's quick transition from race-gaintst-time genre to something completely different that bothered me..the writer did manage to get some smart lines fr prithvi ..however,in these hard times..this has to work...and personally despite the problems found it more respectable than Both Thira and Memories.....

Welcome Bhatt bhai. I thought it was never a race against time genre. May be we all got mis-directed by the caption? But the movie did some transitions during the progress alright. I felt the first half cud be made better at edit level. But the climax on the hill top was a real downer. Even by the end, many issues seem solved but still a repeat watch can only say how much all holds good. I personally liked Memories.
