Tamil superstar Vikram is all set to make his Bollywood debut with Mani Ratnam's next, starring Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan.

Vikram, one of the biggest stars in the Tamil film industry hit big time with his film Sethu which was re-made in Hindi as Tere Naam.

He has several Tamil hits to his credit - Dhill, Gemini, Pithamagan, Dhool, Saamy and Anniyan which was dubbed in Hindi and renamed Aparichit.

After Guru, Mani Sir is now working on a contemporary intense drama which also has romance as its integral part.

He thought it would be a good idea to cast Vikram opposite Aishwarya Rai and called Vikram for a narration.

The source further says, "Vikram is excited about working in a Hindi film, that too with Aishwarya Rai. He understands that this is the best Bollywood launch for him."

Director Mani Ratnam started shooting Raavan in 2007 and today, he is still not sure how to end his film. Still undecided over what makes an apt climax for the film, he has shot four potential climaxes in Malshej!

A source from the unit said, “The first ending has Raavana winning over Sita (Aishwarya Rai). Another option is that she goes the conventional way and returns to Ram. The third and fourth options make life easier for Mani — either Ram dies or Raavana meets his end. So, that closes one door for Sita and she is less burdened by the choice.”

Perhaps Mani doesn’t want to court controversy and hence, is keeping his options open. Having fallen prey to controversy in the past with films like Bombay, where religion was a touchy issue, maybe he hopes that with time, he will be able to arrive at a well thought out conclusion.

Will the Hindi and the Tamil version have the same climax? Who knows? Maybe Abhishek Bachchan, who plays Raavana in the Hindi version, will live happily ever after with Aishwarya Rai, like in real life.

The spokesperson of the film said, “The climax has already been shot. In fact, Abhishek has finished dubbing too.”

VIKRAM TO JOIN THE BACHCHAN COUPLE

Raavan, the film directed by ace director Mani Rathnam is ready and the Hindi version would be screened at Cannes film Festival on 14th of May. This is a prestigious moment for Indian film industry. Mani Rathnam will be at the screening accompanied by the lead cast of the film, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan and Vikram. The music which is scored by A R Rahman is much anticipated and the audio will be released in April. Raavan is slated for release on 18th of June in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu.

'Raavan’ comes on June 18th

The date is out! And finally Mani Ratnam’s ‘Raavan’ will hit the screens on the 18th of June.
Reliable sources say that ‘Raavan’ will be released on 18th June worldwide. Currently the post-production of the movie is going on in Chennai. Mani intends to premiere the movie at Cannes Film Festival, this May and hence is speeding things up, so that he would have enough time to promote his multi-starrer multi-lingual movie.
The movie will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It is also heard that Chiyaan Vikram will dub for himself in the Telugu version but details about his voice in Hindi is yet to be revealed.
Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya and Vikram will remain in all the three versions. A shuffle is expected in their characters but the cast is different in the languages.
Let’s hope to see the Ramayana’s modern adaptation that too Mani style!

T-Series gets audio rights of Rahman's Raavan

Continuing its tryst with A R Rahman's titles, music giant T-series has managed to lap the audio rights of his latest mega project Raavan. The music major has acquired the audio rights of the Hindi version of the trilingual saga directed by Mani Ratnam starring power couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

According to reports, Sony Music was tipped to acquire the music of the film but T-Series walked away with the cake. From Slumdog Millionaire to Delhi 6, the label has been the favoured label of the maestro's body of work.

The music of the film will release in April (2010) and the movie will hit screens on 18 June 2010, informs T-Series' president- marketing media publishing (TV) Vinod Bhanushali. "It is a magnum project which brings together the winning combination of Mani Ratnam and A R Rahman. The film's star cast is also quite an attraction."

Aishwarya dubs in Tamil for ‘Raavan’
Aishwarya Rai made her film entry in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film ‘Iruvar’ in 1997 and since then she is the most beautiful and most preferred heroine of Indian films. After ‘Iruvar’ Ash did a few Tamil films like ‘Jeans’ and ‘Kandukondein Kandukondein’. But in all her Tamil films Aishwarya’s did not dub her lines herself.

But when Aishwarya started working for the bi-lingual ‘Raavan’ she had volunteered to dub for her character in Tamil. But Mani Ratnam took it lightly and was in the idea of using a professional dubbing artiste.

While shooting for ‘Raavan’, Mani Ratnam had arranged a tutor for Aishwarya to help in her dialogues. But when the film ended the meticulous actress got hold the language to perfection.

According to sources close to ‘Raavan’ unit, Aishwarya has completed dubbing for Hindi and has begun to dub her Tamil lines for the Tamil version. They also say Ash is very painstaking and nobody will be able to say she is not a Tamilian after hearing her speak.

With incredible things happening at ease we can expect Aishwarya to dub in Tamil for ‘Endhiran’ also. Beauty and brain going together much to the delight of cinema fans.

Mani Ratnam kept waiting by cow!

Director Mani Ratnam is a well respected name in the industry and a thorough professional who will go to any lengths to get his work done right.

He is known to shoot and re shoot till he is totally satisfied with the end results, no matter how big the star cast and how late the hour or how uncomfortable the weather or terrain. Sticking to schedules and dealing with work professionally is the mark of a Mani Ratnam production.

However, this very professional unit had to be kept waiting, and that too a good 10 hours recently! By whom? A cow!

The shot to be canned was of a cow giving birth in a barn in Occha, Madhya Pradesh, for the shoot of Ravana starring Abhishek, Vikram and Aishwarya. The cow, however, took her own time and the delivery took a good 10 hours during which the entire unit had to wait.

Finally, when the shot was canned, Abhishek went ahead with it. The unit members reveal that this would be one of the most unforgettable moments in their lives!
