The fifth instalment of Mammootty's CBI Sethuramaiyer series could kick off next year with director K Madhu and scribe S N Swamy now having completed the scripting process.
The scriptwriter tells us, “The scripting is done and we are now waiting for Mammootty to return from London to finalise the dates of shooting.“ The project was first announced in 2013 but the team had to work on several drafts before finalising one to take the hugely successful franchise forward.
Mammootty is currently shooting in London for Uday Ananthan's White, which has him as a middle-aged banker who falls in love with a 25year-old woman, played by Huma Qureshi. A source from the team, tells us, “After the schedule in London, we would have a five-day stint in Kerala to shoot the remaining portions.“

Mammootty, the big M of Mollywood, is all set to play his legendary character Sethurama Iyer, once again. The actor has finally given a green signal to play the lead role in the 5th part of CBI series.()
Sethurama Iyer is undoubtedly the most popular detective character ever made in the history of Malayalam Cinema. The first part of CBI Series, Oru CBI Diary Kurippu released in 1988.
The movie was followed by 3 sequels. The second part, Jagratha was one year later, in 1989. Sethurama Iyer was a surprising character for the Malayali audiences, who were only familiar with the heavily macho, rough and tough police-detective characters.
Even though the first two parts were huge successes, it took 15 years for director K Madhu and writer SN Swami to come up with the part 3, Sethurama Iyer CBI. The fourth part, Nerariyan CBI was released in 2005.
The character Sethurama Iyer was originally written for Mohanlal(.) But the actor turned down the offer, as he felt that the movie lacked the commercial elements needed for a crime thriller. Later, Mammootty was roped in for the role.
As per the latest reports, all the major characters of CBI Series, except Jagathy Sreekumar's Vikram, will appear in the 5th part as well. It has also been rumoured that the 5th part will be the final movie of CBI Series.
