FIFA Ballon d'Or finalists Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta scored a goal apiece as champions Barcelona continued their flawless away record with a 4-0 win at Deportivo La Coruna tonight to move five points clear of Real Madrid.
Messi curled in a terrific left-footed free-kick early in the second half for his 18th league goal of the season while Spanish World Cup winner Iniesta scored a sensational, late individual goal as Barcelona made it a perfect nine wins on the road.
Spanish internationals David Villa and Pedro Rodriguez were also on target as Barcelona recorded a 12th consecutive league victory to put pressure on rivals Real Madrid to defeat Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu tomorrow. Barcelona have all three finalists for the 2010 FIFA Ballon d'Or award, with the winner to be announced on Monday.
"We don't know who is going to win the Ballon d'Or but it will be a triumph for Barcelona," said Villa. "We will just have to wait until Monday but we are proud to have the three finalists."
The other finalist, Spanish international Xavi Hernandez, was rested along with fellow first-teamers Dani Alves and Sergi Busquets as manager Pep Guardiola rotated his squad for what was their third game in seven intense days.

Although Villa did not make the final cut for the FIFA Ballon d'Or, he has been a revelation in his debut Barcelona season and the €40m signing from Valencia opened the scoring on 26 minutes. Messi fed Villa with a deft pass and the striker shot through the goalkeeper's legs to give the visitors a much-deserved lead.
Iniesta then produced a sublime pass on 37 minutes and French full back Eric Abidal, who scored his first ever Barcelona goal in the Copa del Rey in midweek, thought he had scored his first league goal for the club but was denied by an offside flag.
Six minutes into the second half Messi doubled Barca's lead with a sensational free-kick that goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia could only watch and admire. Messi was hauled down just outside the penalty area and he dusted himself down to curl a precise free-kick around the wall and into the top left hand corner.
On 78 minutes it was Iniesta's turn to show why he is being considered for the FIFA Ballon d'Or title, cutting inside off the right flank before curling in a fine shot into the far corner. Two minutes later Pedro made it 4-0 before Barcelona gave Dutch international midfielder Ibrahim Afellay his league debut following his transfer window move from PSV Eindhoven

FC Barcelona have won at Riazor with goals from Villa, Messi, Iniesta and Pedro, three in the second half. That’s their ninth away win and takes them up to 49 points.
Riazor was the venue for yet another amazing display of football, as Barça powered to another triumphant win, and that despite none of Xavi, Alves or Busquetss featuring in the side, who Pep Guardiola preferred to rest. It was yet another reminder why, on Monday, all three candidates for the Ballon d’Or award are Barça men: Messi, Iniesta and Xavi.

Villa, Messi, Iniesta and Pedro were on target against the Galicians in an exquisite display of effectiveness. Barça shot just five times, and four of those found the back of the net. It all caps off an incredible record. Barcelona have gone the whole first half of the season with maximum points from away fixtures.

    Barça make Depor run

Barça took command by running Deportivo to the ground with their characteristic passing game. From the first minute, the home side weren’t given an inch and failed to conjure up any danger to concern Guardiola, who had made several changes to the side that went to San Mamés on Wednesday. The three Barça combined to their usual perfection, and Depor spent most of the game chasing shadows.

    Villa opens the coring

It was thanks to such expert circulation of the ball that Messi was able to provide a fantastic assist to Villa, who cleverly broke free of his marker and slotted the ball between the legs of Aranzubía. Deportivo were more stunned than ever, they barely left their half in the last 20 minutes in a game that was in danger of becoming a monologue.

    Work of Messi art

The first half had made it evident that there was a massive gap in class between these two teams, yet there was only a goal in it at half time. That was not enough for Messi, who decided to turn a tricky free kick into an absolute stunner of a goal. There was nothing Aranzubía could do. It was 2-0 and game over.

Iniesta and Pedro join the fun

The Riazor fans realised they had no hope of their own, and instead chanted the name of Iniesta, who had been simply outstanding in the first half. He thanked them for their praise with another delightful piece of football, striking home with his left foot. Riazor could only applaud. There was no time to digest that though, because seconds later another perfect one-two involving Messi and Pedro led to the fourth. There’s no stopping Barça, and now it’s time for the world to decide on Monday which of Messi, Iniesta and Xavi is the best. An almost impossible decision to make!

    Players delighted with open training

    Marc Guillén / Vanessa Forns

FC Barcelona's first-team players enjoyed the training session in front of the supporters on Sunday as much as the 15,000 fans that were in the Miniestadi to see their idols be put through their paces.

The Blaugrana stars usually train in the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper with only the coaching staff looking on, but the day after the win against Deportivo La Coruña the stars worked out with an excitable crowd looking on. Barça TV and FCBarcelona.cat showed the session live on television and the internet so thousands more could see the proceeding at home.

    Keita praise

"It is great to see all the children wanting to be so close to the players," Seydou Keita said after the session. With the majority of the crowd made up of kids, the Mali midfielder was clearly impressed by the youngsters' enthusiasm. "The atmosphere was great," he added. "This is just further proof that Barça is different and that there is no other club like this."

    Abidal enjoyment

Éric Abidal was also delighted with being able to see the fans. "It is great to see everyone like this," he commented. "It was a spectacular day and I think we all enjoyed it." The French defender did not think that it should become a regular thing though. "With the noise it would not be possible to train like that all the time."

    Piqué delighted

"It has been a day to remember," Gerard Piqué stated. "It was a real pleasure to be able to train in front of so many people and to see how connected they are with the team. It also showed just how many people, especially youngsters there are that follow the team. It was just a shame that it was impossible to speak to everyone."

    Afellay impressed

Ibrahim Afellay has only just joined Barça and he was stunned by the turnout. "This club is enormous and has some incredible fans," he said. "I want to enjoy myself here and aim to continue doing what I have been."

    Barça passion in the Miniestadi

    Vanessa Forns

The atmosphere inside the Miniestadi on Sunday was electrifying as around 15,000 excited supporters flocked in to see the FC Barcelona players be put through their paces in an open training session.

After a thrilling return to league action the evening before, as Deportivo La Coruña were beaten 0-4, the Blaugrana stars were joined by eight players from the B side and the fans, most of whom were children, took full advantage of the chance to see their idols up close. Dressed in a huge variety of shirts and scarves of Barça colours, the crowd cheered and shouted as their favourites worked out in front of them in the unusual surroundings.

    Sunday morning

The area around the Miniestadi is usually peaceful on Sunday mornings, but this weekend was different as the thousands of fans thronged outside waiting for their chance to go inside the arena and take their seats. With a midday start nobody wanted to miss out and with the sun shining in the Catalan capital spirits were high among the fans.

    Football presents

Along with the placards and shouts of support from the crowd the excitement grew when the players on the pitch began to kick souvenir footballs into the stands. As people stretched to reach the balls, the players were able to read the messages of support, many of which were for the trio of Barça players, Lionel Messi, Andrés Iniesta and Xavi, who are the finalists for FIFA's Ballon d'Or.

    Photographs and the autographs

Soon after the balls were kicked into the upper tiers of the Miniestadi, those fans at the front were treated to the site of the players approaching them and signing autographs and posing for photographs.

    Celebrating goals

The players that appeared against Deportivo on Saturday only warmed up and stretched, but the rest of the squad and the youngsters participated in a game in a reduced pitch and the fans did not miss the chance to enjoy themselves as every goal was celebrated as if it were an official encounter. After an hour the players began to make their way back to the changing rooms and the fans were able to filter out and head ho
