Career(From Wikipedia)
From 1993 to 2000
The year 1993 was a huge turning point in the career of Renjith. He scripted Devasuram with Mohanlal in the lead. Directed by I.V. Sasi, this film was critically and commercially a big hit. Devasuram was the story of Mullassery Rajagopal, who was very close to Renjith. The performance of Mohanlal was highly appreciated and it opened a new genre of feudal stories in Malayalam cinema. Within two months of the release of Devasuram, his next movie, Maya Mayuram, directed by Sibi Malayil, starring Mohanlal got release. But Maya Mayuram failed to invoke any response in the box office. According to Renjith, Maya Mayuram is one one of his best films and the failure of it affected him so deeply. Renjith in an interview had told that many directors were not ready to accept the script. But it was Mohanlal who convinced Sibi Malayil to take up this script as he liked the narrative style of Renjith very much. Again in 1993, Renjith wrote the script for Yadavam, directed by Jomon, starring Suresh Gopi. This film was another huge disaster in his career. In the year 1994, Renjith joined hands with Shaji Kailas for Rudraksham, starring again Suresh Gopi, who was in the peak of his career. This film generated much enthusiasm in the market as Shaji Kailas- Suresh Gopi was a hot selling team at that time. But the loose script and lack of any punch dialogues made Rudraksham a big flop. His next work was Rajaputhran, directed by Shajun Karyal, again with Suresh Gopi in lead, which was also a big flop. In the year 1997, he joined hands with Shaji Kailas for Asuravamsham, starring Manoj K Jayan and Biju Menon. This film was an average hit. But times was just waiting for him. In the end of 1997, Renjith penned Aaram Thamburan, one of the biggest hits of his career. Directed by Shaji Kailas, this film broke several collection records and was both critically and commercially a huge hit. This film also a breaking point in the career of Mohanlal. Renjith, with this film gained the reputation of a commercially viable script writer. Then followed Kaikudanna Nilavu, in 1998, directed by Kamal, starring Jayaram, which was also an average hit. In 1998 Renjith scripted Summer in Bethlehem, directed by Sibi Malayil, starring Suresh Gopi and Jayaram, which was a super hit. In 1999, Renjith along with Shaji Kailas produced the film Usthad, directed by Sibi Malayil, starring Mohanlal. This film was also written by Renjith and it turned into a huge hit breaking collection records.
2000 to 2010
The year 2000 began with the Narashimham, directed by Shaji Kailas. With Mohanlal in leadrole, this film became one of the biggest hit in the history of Malayalam Cinema till then. Again in 2000, along with Shaji Kailas, Renjith repeated history. His Onam release Valliettan, starring Mammooty became one of the biggest hits of the year. With this film Renjith became the most successful script writer of the time.
In 2001, Renjith made his directorial debut with Ravanaprabhu, the sequel of Devasuram. With Mohanlal appearing in dual roles as father and son, this film turned into a huge hit in the history of Malayalam cinema. In the year 2002, Renjith came back with another blockbuster, Nandanam, starring a new face Prithviraj Sukumaran. Renjith produced this film along with his actor friend Siddique. Nandanam, revolving around an innocent girl, her love for Sri Krishna and her lover boy, was an entirely different and unexpected theme from Renjith at that time. In spite of having no big stars, fights or punch dialogues, this film turned into a huge hit. In the year 2003, Renjith directed Mizhi Randilum starring Dileep and Kavya Madhavan, another family drama, which failed to impress masses, but was critically acclaimed. Renjith in the same year scripted Ammakilikood, directed by Padmakumar, with Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead, which also got cold response from public. In 2004, Renjith joined with Mammooty for Black, which was a complete commercial entertainer targeting the fans of Mammootty, and was a big hit. Then came Chandrolsavam, starring Mohanlal in 2005. Even though this film was aesthetically and critically appreciated, failed to impress the fans of Mohanlal. In 2006, he scripted and directed Prajapathi, starring Mammootty, which was a big flop.
Renjith made a come back in 2007 with Kaiyoppu, an offbeat film, which is considered as one of the best films of the decade. Kaiyoppu brought appreciations from different corners and made Renjith to try out plots and themes without any commercial ingredients. He, in 2007, wrote a script for Joshi for the first time. Their first venture Nasrani, didn't create any response and became only an average grosser. Renjith's next venture Rock & Roll, starring Mohanlal, was not able to attract critics and was a big flop too. In the year 2008, Renjith stunned Kerala with his film Thirakkatha, which was both commercially and artistically a huge hit. Despite having any commercial elements, this film was a huge hit in hox office and also garnered many awards. Renjith, in 2009, wrote the script and directed Paleri Manikyam : Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Katha , which was widely acclaimed. This film also was a hit in the box office. The performance of Mammootty was widely appreciated in this film. In the same year he came up with another amazing creation, Kerala Cafe. It is a fusion of ten directors and their ten different short films. The master brain behind this venture was Renjith. This film is an experimental and break through in Malayalam film industry.
Renjith in the year 2010 wrote story for the film Penpattanam, directed by V M Vinu. He is currently working om Pranchiyettan and The Saint with Mammootty in the lead.
