Samsung Galaxy S6 specifications leaked online

Samsung usually unveils its flagship Galaxy S device early in the year. With 2014 almost coming to an end, rumours related to the company's next flagship have already surfaced.

According to SamMobile, the South Korean tech giant has been working on the Galaxy S6 under the codename 'Project Zero' as it aims to start from scratch in order to make it 'the best Galaxy S flagship yet'.

Although the screen size was not mentioned among the rumoured specs, the device is expected to feature a Quad HD (2560x1440p) display, just as Note 4. Another similarity between the two devices will be the camera sensor, IMX240, which could be either a 16MP or 20MP lens. The front camera will be upgraded to 5MP in alignment with the recently launched Galaxy A series.

In terms of storage, Samsung Galaxy S6 will come in three variants — 32, 64 and 128GB, doing away with the 16GB model. The report did not mention the amount of RAM that the model will have.

The device is expected to be powered by Exynos 7420 octacore processor, which will include four Cortex A53 and Cortex A57 cores, each. The device is also said to come in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor variant. Both models will feature 64-bit chipset architecture.

The report also says that Samsung Galaxy S5 will be more battery efficient than other smartphones in the market as it will use a Broadcom chip that puts the GPS as well as other sensors on the same chip, letting the phone process data faster.

Samsung Galaxy S6 is still in the early stages of development and there have been no leaked images of the device yet. The smartphone is likely to be unveiled globally late February or early March next year.

Gionee Marathon M3 With 5000mAh Battery Launched at Rs. 12,999

Gionee on Wednesday launched the Marathon M3 smartphone in India at an MOP of Rs. 12,999.

The major highlight of the M2 successor, the Gionee Marathon M3, is that it packs a massive 5000mAh battery, compared to the 4200mAh battery in the M2. The company listing claims the battery can deliver up to 32.46 hours of talk time on 3G, and up to 51 hours of talk time on 2G networks, or 32.8 days of standby time. The smartphone separately went up for sale via an e-commerce site earlier this week.

Gionee had launched the M2 in February this year, alongside the Gpad G4.

The dual-SIM Marathon M3 runs Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box and features a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS One Glass Solution (OGS) display. The smartphone is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 processor coupled with an ARM Mali 450MP GPU and 1GB of RAM.

The Gionee Marathon M3 comes with 8GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB). It sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while there is a secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera also onboard.

On the connectivity front, the Marathon M3 includes 3G, Wi-Fi, WLAN Direct, Micro-USB, GPRS/ EDGE, GPS/ A-GPS, FM radio and Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP. It includes a proximity sensor, accelerometer, and compass (magnetometer).

The handset measures 144.5x71.45x10.4mm, and weighs 180.29 grams (without battery)

If you live in India, no need to pay for WhatsApp

Immensely popular messenger tool WhatsApp will continue to offer its services for free in India for some more time. You’d usually have to pay about $1 in subscription fees annually after using the application for a year at no charge. But the company’s Vice President, Neeraj Arora, has explained that it won’t be asking Indian fans to cough up the dough at present.

Arora who happens to have been a student of the Indian School of Business, hints on the infeasibility of enforcing the fee in this country since a relatively low percentage of people own credit cards to make the required payment online. That’s also one of the many reasons compelling most e-commerce sites in India to offer the option of cash on delivery to customers.

Now web-based app developers and telecom companies are not exactly best friends here, even though they should be. But WhatsApp has cut deals with five network providers by convincing them that they could sell more data to customers via promotions and so on. Because once you’ve got an individual hooked to messenger services, they’re most likely to remain a user for life.

Chasing away fears about Facebook coaxing ads onto WhatsApp since it has acquired the tool, Arora emphasized on the company’s belief in the subscription model since people hate promos interrupting their conversations, says The Hindu Business Line. When quizzed about user likes and dislikes in specific countries, he said that a tailored product wasn’t on the horizon.

As it stands, the company thinks it’s better to create a product suited to everyone and not just a certain group of people. Arora also added that Indians have it in their DNA to build the next WhatsApp.

Lenovo Launches iPhone 6 Inspired Sisley S90

If someone were to hold a contest and ask customers to find a couple of differences between the newly launched iPhone 6 and Lenovo’s Sisley S90, it would be a tough call. The newly launched phone definitely borrows a lot of design aesthetics from the Apple phone and we can’t complain because a lot of consumers ask for it at an affordable price range.

However, you should know that even though the Lenovo Sisley S90 looks like iPhone 6, it runs on Android Kit Kat 4.4 out of the box. The phone is just 6.9 mm thick and weighs at 129 grams which is once again not close but the exact same measurements of the Apple product. Looks like the company wanted to be making more than just a copied version and decided to exceed the norms with their perfection to detail.

The Sisley S90 features a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The display is super AMOLED which renders great brightness levels and color contrast ratio. The phone is powered on the inside by a 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon processor and is coupled with 1 GB of RAM. The Adreno 306 GPU should help you run most games smoothly.

On the back, you will find a 13 megapixel rear camera combined with LED flash and the front is integrated with a powerful 8 megapixel camera. Of late, the craze for selfies and increased amount of video calling requirements has prompted Lenovo besides other companies to increase the megapixels of the front camera.

It has 16 GB internal storage with micro SD card slot for expansion and has 2300 mAh battery. The connectivity options include Wifi, Bluetooth, NFC and 3G. The Lenovo Sisley S90 gold, grey, silver and pink color variants. The price of the phone is 1,999 CNY in China which is approximately Rs. 20,000 in Indian rupees.
