He is probably one director, who choose to direct a remake film even after tasting 100% success in original films. If you have guessed it as Shankar, then you are absolutely right. The filmmaker in his close-to-two decade career, made his first remake in Nanban.
Speaking to a leading daily, Shankar has said that he never wished to do remakes but it happened by chance. It was during the shooting of Endhiran, when the filming was cancelled due to some reasons in Pune, he by chance, saw Bollywood movie 3 Idiots along with the film unit. The film impressed him a lot and the director decided to have a Tamil version because he wanted the South viewers to experience what he felt while watching 3 Idiots. On actor Vijay , Shankar said he's suits Aamir Khan role ,cant think of any actor other than Vijay .Hope i did bring his best performance on the film and his fans felt the same.On working with Vijay again , Shankar said he love too working again with Vijay but that for sure will be a fresh subject that the role he havent done so far.
He further added that it gave him a new experience but promises that he would not try his hands on remakes not even a remake of his earlier movie. All he says is that he is on a holiday and it is only after that he would be in a position to announce his future project.
