Thiruvananthapuram, The Mollywood Capital
Posted on 01/03/2012 by vinodtnt
It turns out that Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram) is once again becoming a soughtafter locale for Mollywood. Take for instance last year’s superhit Salt ‘N Pepper, which was extensively shot in the capital. One of the hit movies to come out this year, Ee Adutha Kaalathu, was also shot in the city.
In the last two months, Thiruvananthapuram was shortlisted for six films, out of which three feature superstar Mohanlal. The actor, who spent the lion’s share of last year shooting for films or taking a break abroad, will film in his hometown for the first time since Oru Naal Varum in 2010.
He will kick off his Thiruvananthapuram schedule next month with the much hyped ‘Spirit’, which will see him reunite with ace director Ranjith after five years. The flick also stars Prakash Raj and Kaniha. The superstar will then start the shoot for the yet-to-be-titled Joshiy-flick, which will see him playing a cameraman. He has also signed Specialist with Cowboy director P Balachandrakumar.
Apart from Mohanlal flicks, the first half of the year will also see superstar Dileep returning to the capital city after a while to shoot his political satire ‘Nadodimannan’. Sources say that director V K Prakash is also zeroing in on the city for his next flick. Currently, Anoop Menon-Meghana Raj duo’s ‘Namukku Paarkaan’ is being filmed in the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram.
