THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thanks to their sophisticated modern tastes, techies have spawned a whole lot of alternative lifestyle symbols like pizza joints, coffee shops and even pool bars in and around the Technopark. Now, here is an addition.A condom shop.For the first time in the country, an IT park is going to have an exclusive shop that will sell just condoms. The country’s major condom manufacturer HLL Lifecare will be soon opening its condom shop at Technopark here.The decision was taken by the company following the observation that condoms have a major demand among the techies here.The company officials had a visit to the campus and is learnt to have finalised the space for opening the shop.The Technopark houses over 100 companies and is estimated to have over 10,000 employees.Many IT majors like TCS and Infosys are also setting up their own campuses here.With the increasing demand among the IT companies to set up their shops in this part of the state, it is predicted that the condom shop will be a major hit. If it becomes successful, similar condom shops will be extended to other IT parks in the country.T his is not the first condom shop of the HLL Lifecare in the state. They had opened its first exclusive condom shop in Thiruvananthapuram which broke even long before completing one year of operations. The HLL Lifecare had opened this condom shop on an experimental basis to know the response. With the first shop itself becoming a major hit, the company plans to open such exclusive outlets across the country. Already an array of condom vending machines are being operated by them in the nerve-centres of many cities across the country.The huge success of the condom shop proves that the stigma surrounding the purchase of condoms from a retail shop is a thing of the past. It also signals the growing awareness of the need for safe sex.
