Govt may provide tax
rebate to filmmakers
shooting in Goa
PANAJI: Shooting films in the
picturesque locales of Goa is set to
become more lucrative as the state
government is studying a proposal to
provide tax rebate to filmmakers.
Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG)
chief executive officer Manoj
Srivastava said the draft scheme
recommends that the state pay back
one to 5% of the total amount spent
by filmmakers in Goa.
"It is still a draft scheme. It would be
a great incentive for filmmakers for
using Goa as a shooting destination,"
Srivastava said.
"The filmmakers who have shot in
Goa will be asked to submit copies of
all the bills of their expenses during
shooting in Goa," said Srivastava,
whose ESG jointly co-ordinates the
prestigious International Film
Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa along
with the Directorate of Film Festivals
(DFF).
"The bills will include all their
expenses including food, lodging and
others," the official said, adding that
the subsidy would make Goa an
even more attractive film shooting
destination in India.
The scheme, drafted by ESG and
submitted to the state government
recently, mentions that a cap of 5%
will be put on reimbursement.
The ESG CEO said the scheme aims
to invite more filmmakers to shoot
in Goa.
Srivastava said such tax
reimbursement schemes already
exist in countries like the UK. As per
ESG, 600 days of film shootings were
reported last year bringing in a
revenue of Rs 36 lakh.
