Using Malicious DNS Server? Your Internet Will Stop Working Starting Today

Internet would come to halt for millions of users around the world starting coming March 8th if proper DNS server is not maintained. This is because virus and DNS changer corrupt billions of computers around the world.

So, what is DNS?

DNS is Domain Name System it’s an internet service that converts user friendly domain names, such Google, into numerical address that allows computers to speak to each other. Without DNS and DNS servers operated by internet service providers, computes users would not be able to browse, sent email and connect to internet.

According to US Federal Bureau of Investigation, six Estonian nationals have been arrested and charged with running a convoluted Internet fraud ring that infected millions of computers worldwide with a virus and enabled the thieves to fake the multi-billion-dollar Internet advertising industry. Users of infected machines were not aware that their computers had been compromised—or that the fraud software rendered their machines vulnerable to a host of other viruses.

Okay, now what is DNS changer?

DNS changer is a Trojan that changes the infected system’s DNS settings. The Trojan identified by some antivirus as Trojan.Zlob these Trojan, like so-called DNS changer (The Zlob Trojan, identified by some antivirus as Trojan.Zlob, is a Trojan horse which masks as a needed video codec in the form of ActiveX).

This DNS changer add rogue DNS name servers to the registry of Windows-based computer and attempt to hack into any detected router to change the DNS settings and therefore could potentially re-route traffic from legitimate web sites to other suspicious web sites. The Trojan has also been linked to downloading atnvrsinstall.exe which uses the Windows Security shield icon to look as if it is an Anti Virus installation file from Microsoft, having this file initiated can cause mayhem on computers and networks.

As part of a US federal court order, the rogue DNS servers have been replaced with legitimate servers in the hopes that users who were infected will not have their Internet access disrupted. It is important to note that the replacement servers will not remove the DNS changer malware or other viruses it may have facilitated from infected computers. Also the US federal court was told to educate the public and Internet Service Providers about the DNS changer malware.

If your ISP (Internet Service Provider) DNS server is infected, same will be applicable to you. How do you know if your computer is infected? If you are Windows user you can check by going to the
Start menu,
Typing Run and then cmd
At the command prompt,
Type: ipconfig /all
Look for the entry that reads “DNS Servers……….”
The DNS numbers are in the format of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, where xxx is a number from 0 to 255 (Eg. 192.168.1.1). Make note of the IP addresses for the DNS servers and compare them to the table of known rogue DNS servers.

Micromax Brings MMX 353G Data Card Preloaded with Google Chrome



Though 3G in India is yet to be popular there is high demand for 3G enabled data cards as people are using these with 2G data services which comes cheap.

Apart from Huawei and ZTE, many Indian companies have already launched own-branded unlocked 3G data cards. Micromax, one of the leading indigenous Indian handset companies has launched a new model under its 3G-HSPA data card portfolio.

BSNL Extends 3G Data Plans at Discounted Price Offer For 1 Month

India’s National Telecom Backbone and Pan India 3G mobile service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) today announced the extension of its promotional offer of 3G Data Plans at discounted rates for 1 months.

Now BSNL 3G subscriber (Prepaid and Postpaid) using 5000 MB, 10,000 MB and 15000 MB plans can enjoy discounted price up to 40% for another period of 30 days i.e.up to 30 April 2012. Earlier the 3G Data benefit offer was valid till 31st March 2012.

on 6th September last year, BSNL has revised its 3G Data offerings and announced the new increased price of certain Prepaid STVs and Postpaid Fixed Monthly Charge (FMC).

After the launch of ’3G Duble Dhamaka’ offers by some of leading private 3G operators, BSNL also starts to offer some plans with discounted price valid up to 31st March, 2012. Now theses plans (lised below) at discounted price will be available up to 30th April,2012.

Reliance Mobile Renovates its 2G GPRS Pack Across India

Reliance Communications, India’s fully integrated telecommunications service provider, today revised its GPRS packs across all circles and the revised packs will now offer lesser data at same cost.

The Rs. 99 plan which was offering upto 6GB of data which was a promotional offer as we shared earlier on oct 7th 2011 will now offer 2GB all over India which is going to badly hit Reliance subscribers.

Where as in Orrisa Reliance was offering unlimited data at Rs. 99 which is now cut down to 5GB.Previously if a customer opted E-Recharge were getting 6GB of data where as if a customer opted paper coupon Reliance was offering 2.5GB.

MTS comes up with official details of the pocket router, now available in all circles where



MTS operates. MTS also announced prepaid and postpaid high speed data tariff plans for MiFi or MBlaze Mobile Wi-Fi Router.

As we told the MTS MiFi Pocket router is actually ZTE AC30 without GSM support. ZTE AC30 is powered by Qualcomm chipset MSM7625, the maximum speed it can offer is upto 3.1Mbps downlink and upto 1.8Mbps uplink.

The router is RUIM based, and supported with WiFi Standard 802.11b/g. The pocket router can offer internet connectivity upto 5 devices. The network connection provided by the router is very secure as it supports RX Diversity and Wi-Fi Security: WEP/WPA/WPA2.

The device comes with USB 2.0 high speed connectivity when connected to a PC or laptop. Supported Operating systems are Windows 7, Windows Vista(32bit or 64bit), Windows XP (SP3 or later), Mac OS(10.4 or later). There is not microSD card slot. There are 4 LED indicators – Battery; signal strength; WiFi indication; network indication.

The pocket router comes in a very handy dimension of 98.5mm × 54mm × 13.9mm and weight is just 80gm. The pocket router comes with a inside battery to offer wireless internet on the go. The battery capacity is 1500 mAh and power adapter ( 5V/700mA). Working time: About 4 hours and Standby time: About 100 hours.
