Double treat from Mammootty & Ranjith
While the first flick, tentatively titled Malabar, will be scripted by Ranjith, the second will be directed by him
Even as the hype around the Ranjith-Mohanlal duo’s latest outing is at its zenith, the director’s arguably more favoured superstar Mammootty has been roped in for two of his b a ck - t o - b a ck projects. The first Mammootty flick, tentatively-titled Malabar, will be directed by G S Vijayan and scripted by Ranjith. The film revolves around the relationship between a driver and his employer played by Mammootty and Anoop Menon respectively.
“Ranjith’s scripted another strong performance-oriented character for Mammootty, similar to their previous works of
Pranchiyettan and The Saint and Palerimanikyam,” says a source close to the team. The flick will be extensively shot in Kozhikode and is scheduled to begin in August, as soon as Mammootty wraps up the shoot of his debut production, Jawan of Vellimala.
Another treat awaits the fans of the hit superstar-director duo as Ranjith will also direct Mammootty this year. The second flick will be scripted by Urumi scribe Shanker Ramakrishnan and produced by the superstar’s aide, S George.
Initially, it was announced that George will be first producing Diphan’s Newsmaker with Mammootty in the lead role. “That movie is pushed to next year,” George says. “That’s why Mammukka wanted me to produce Ranjith’s movie, which is expected to start filming in September.”
