It is the monsoon season in Kerala, and has been raining continuously for days. Normally there is a monsoon effect on the KBO, but this year it is only marginal. Two films Honey Bee and ABCD has been attracting the youth.
The new generation formula films are all about puerile comedy full of booze, drugs, expletives, fart and shit jokes. The youth audiences are seeing more Malayalam films than ever before.
The number one on the KBO is Lal jr`s directorial debut Honey Bee. The film has grossed an amazing Rs 6.12 Crore in two weeks from 72 screens in Kerala. The distributor share from theatricals is approximately Rs 3 crore, which is huge for an Asif Ali film. In Ernakulam alone the share is nearly Rs 28 lakhs in two weeks from four screens including `Plexes.
A strong number two is Dulqar`s ABCD, which had a truncated day one release due to late arrival of content and had also to face heavy rains. The film has netted nearly Rs 1.90 Cr in first week. In Ernakulam Padma the film has netted an awesome Rs 9.5 lakhs in the first 8 days, before it was shifted to Sridhar due to prior commitment.
Anju Sundarikal which opened on a Saturday (June 22) took a decent opening at A stations like Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram, but is just average in B & C stations and is number three on KBO.
In the fourth place is Neram which still continues to hold on in multiplexes and good in shifting centres. Left Right Left is decent in multiplexes and in fifth position.
