Kothamangalam Ann Cinema/2:30 P.M/House Full
Some months back when i read somewhere that Vineeth Sreenivasan is all set for his second movie and it is a campus love story, the first question that came to my mind was,how this guy is going to come up with an age old story, that too of an inter relegious campus love,in this era of ‘new gen’ movies and next gen gadgets.Today i got my answer and that answer is nothing other than Thattathin Marayathu.Thattathin Marayathu is a very simple, straight, uncomplicated and highly predictable love story with freshness sprinkled all over it.Right from the titles, till the last scene,we wont feel that,we’ve seen this thing innumerous times though we had.As the tag line of the movie says,Thattathin Marayathu tells the love story of an young couple, one ummachikutti and a nair boy.Told in the background of Thalassery town,Vineeth Sreenivasan,a native of the same town has succeeded in writing a script which protrays the specialities, features and awesome locations in and around that city.
When it comes to acting,Nivin Pauly and Isha Talwar who did the roles of Vinod and Aysha has done a pretty decent job. While watching the teasers and songs of Thattathin Marayathu,to be honest i had doubts about how Nivin is going to get into the shoes of a very soft hearted, full of romance, guy. But he has done his part beautifully. His expressions, the way he rendered the dialogues, everything fell in places.About Isha, most of the times, she didn’t had much things to do but whenever she had something to do,she did that well.I’m still not very sure whether the girls from Thalassery are this beautiful, though Vineeth claimed they are ,in a recent interview. The guys like Aju,Bagath,Ahmed Sidhique(K.T Mirash) who did the roles of Vinod’s friends were good, especially Aju who really entertained the audience with his witty one liners and appearence. The guy who deserves special mention is no one other than Sunny Wayne,a.k.a Kurudi.Though he’s there only for some 15 minutes,he did make his mark.Way to Go Sunny !! Manoj K. Jayan as S.I Premkumar who hails from ‘Thironthoram’ also gave a great performance. All the other actors including Ramu,Sreenivasan,Aparna,Manikuttan did their roles well.
As a a director and writer,Vineeth Sreenivasan has travelled a long way from his debut venture Malarvadi Arts Club. There were some awesome frame compostions which were well caputed by cinematographer Jomom T John.At times,i felt like Vineeth used some of his dialogues just to express his views about some matters.Majority of those dialogues were accepted by the audience but some of them didn’t create any waves and caused a little dragging in the second half. But on a whole, the scenes and dialogues penned by the director is really an above average stuff
Music handled by Shan Rahman was good to hear but personally i felt the amount of music n songs in the movie was quite on the higher side. Background music awesome at times and not upto the mark at some other scenes.
In short,Thattathin Marayathu is a good watch. It’s a movie which has got all the feel that is required for a romantic flick. As mentioned in the beginning Thattathin Marayathu is a very simple, straight, uncomplicated, close to heart and predictable love story with freshness sprinkled all over it.
I’ll go with 3.5/5 stars for Director/Writer/Singer Vineeth Sreenivasan directed,Nivin Pauly and Isha Talwar starrer Thattathin Marayathu
