101 weddings is the story of a fraud Krishnankutty (Krish) , a goon Antappan and a dancer Jyothishkumar. The story progresses as all these people, including Abhirami , daughter of a business man and Rukhya , a girl from poor family reaches a place where a group wedding function is to be happened.
Most of the Shafi films have a comedy label and all the viewers expect the same from him. The film starts with so many dragging scenes, but keeps the rhythm with some funny moments till the interval. The second half is not having many scenes to entertain the audience, as it turns serious and ends with a predictable melodramatic climax.
Here, the problem is with the script, especially in the 2nd half. The script writer Kalavoor Ravikumar have tried to add some comedy elements, where the movie takes the serious turn. But everything goes in vain. Shafi has tried his best to portray this plot on the screen and but he could have chosen somebody else for the script.
Regarding the technical department, Azhagappan has done a decent job. Editing is pretty average, as some scenes missed continuity. Depak Dev’s music is okay as it suits the mood. The first song is bad and shot well in screen. On the other hand remaining songs are good, but having a disappointing cinematography.
Kunchako Boban excels in the role of Kirsh , where Biju menon as Antappan makes some funny moments. Jayasurya performs well in the role of a dancer as he has done it neatly in his own way. It’s a real stupidity to compare him with what Dileep has done in “Chanthupottu”. The female leads Samvritha and Bhama are good in their respective roles. Suraj is irritating the viewer most of the time, but his dialogue about the tongue of women had a great applause. Vijeesh had provided enough comic touch to the movie. All other supporting actors were good, especially the actor in the role of Samvrithas father deserves a special mention.
On the whole, 101 weddings is having a good theme, but couldn't execute well as a comedy movie. It partially entertains the viewer and one will feel like it could have been better.
