With a subject that is politically relevant interlaced with characters which bear uncanny resemblences to real life people, Left right Left turns out to be a gritty affair to watch. When the team behind one of the noted movies of last year (Ee adutha kaalathu) unites once again, it gives ample reasons for Malayalam movie lovers to cheer about.

Kaitheri Sahadevan (Harish Perady) who is one of the stalwarts of a political party in Kerala bears the pain of having endured a childhood of discrimination and harassment. A witness of his father’s and uncle’s murders, Sahadevan matures into a ruthless leader unforgiving and adamant in nature.

A few years down the lane, we get to witness the fate of Roy Joseph (Murali Gopi) who eventually grows up to become Chec Guera Roy, a man of high values, interestingly those shaped by the same ideology as that of Sahadevan’s.


Then there is Vattu Jayan (Indrajith) who exhibits deviant behaviours owing to a painful childhood.

When the three leading men pouring in their heart and soul into the characters, Left right Left takes off into a feisty political drama.

Murali Gopi’s valiant feat with the script deserves applaudes all the way as well as his portrayal of Chec Guera Roy. Indrajith once again proves his mettle as an actor .

Harish Perady is in full control of Sahadevan and never goes awry at it. Undoubtedly, he is a talent we are yet to see more from. A couple of pitch perfect performances played out by Sethulakshmi, Lena and Ramya against the delightful script elevates it to the array of never miss genre of flicks.

Cinematography by Shehnad Jalal delivers the needful and GopiSundar’s BGM is nothing less than top notch. Without an iota of doubt, director Arun Kumar Aravind hits the bulls eye for the third time after Ee adutha kaalathu and Cocktail.

With two back to back smash hits in his kitty, Jithu Joseph, the eclectic and experimental film maker, plunges into the edge of the seat thriller genre once again after an unsuccesful Detective a few years back.

The plot and characterisations clearly etched out within conventional frameworks, Memories never dares to go out of the box but makes up for a typical Malayalam crime saga.

Sam Alex (Prithviraj), who used to be an efficient cop turns a drunkard after witnessing a huge personal tragedy. Meanwhile Aravindaksha Menon (Vijayaraghavan), his senior officer and mentor soughts his help to crack a challenging case.

Reluctant at first, Sam ultimately decides to give it a shot. From then on, mystery surrounding a psychopath unravels in style and forms the rest of the narration.

So who is the killer ? En route to it, there are twists and turns galore, thanks to some smart thinking from the writer (Jithu Joseph), powered by the convincing act from Prithviraj. Back ground score by Anil Johnson just so aptly complements the dark undertone that runs through.

When DOP Sujith Vassudev cranks the camera in hollywood style and editor John Kutty pruns the show elegantly, entertainment value is promised. Songs by Sejo John do not hold much weightage given the genre of the movie.

Nothing much comes out of heroines Meghana Raj and Miya George. The rest of the cast including Suresh Krishna, Mahalakshmi and Nedumudi Venu do their part well.

Memories will make it's way to the array of suspense dramas in Mollywood and will stay in hearts forever, for sure.


Verdict - Worth spending on !
