Kunthapura - An average fare

This movie had a premire show at Liverpool. This made me to watch this film.


Synopsis : The movie starts with a Television programme team who tries to find out what happens to the Kunthapura village during 1920s. They want to telecast this programme as a part of celebrating the 65 years of Indian Independence. This leads us to the incidents that happens in a Village called Kunthapura at Karnataka State during the year 1928, time when British was ruling India. Group of archeologists were commisioned to do an excavation at this Kunthapura village. Finally, British Officials ordered these archeologists to evacuate entire people from Kunthapura. This forces the people at Kunthapura to take arms against British officers. Their struggle against the British officials and the result of this struggle forms the rest of the story.


The movie is a slow paced movie. Yet, it has some good moments somewhere. They had shown some unseen and unheard history of South India during 1920s. Unlike other normal periodic films, this film shows some importance to British people. That might be one of the reason for conducting a premier show at Liverpool.


In the making, Director Joe Eshwar shot this movie which would create a feel that this story is a realistic one. Two songs were good. The other song was below average and doesnt suits the situation. Bgm is also a positive part of the film. On the negative side, movie is slow paced and felt lag in the 1st half. The detailing of each character could have been made more clear. Also, Climax could have been made better (the reason for the fight between the old man and his grand son).


In the acting side, every one in this movie done their roles well. I loved the performance of Priya Lal. Charu Hassan also did his role neatly but doesnt have much scenes for him. Apt casting was done for every charcters in this film.


Overall, the movie Kunthapura has its Up's and Down's which finally ended up as an average fare. Iam not at all recommending this movie to anyone. The above review is my personal opinion. Now the choice is yours.
