Andriod is an open source. It can be downloaded from ther website. The developer who are developing will take a copy of original andriod package and will modify according to their need without disturbing the copyright. Since its an open source they dont want to take permission to do. It can be used anywhere...same as vlc..its an open source ike linux etc..even u can download the entire source code.

Forked versions use just the base for the OS. Like in case of Nokia, google integration was not done, and Google play was replaced with Nokia's own app store.

Nokia clearly relies on its superior hardware and battery life to compete against other "genuine" android phones in the same price range.

Nokia has always relied on their hardwares .. If Nokia wasnt there WP would have been doomed by now & if Nokia had gone for Android in 2010 then Samsung phones wouldnt even exist by now

Some app depends on hardware spec also..Nokia has released a software for the developers to check the compatibility of the app. If it occurs,some issues..directly the developer can go through the part and can able to make necessary changes. The advantage is, the developers dont want to develop the entire app...so time can be saved.. from Nokia point view they can grow their app store with in 2years..After few months might be Jolla will also use the same app store.
