Pullipuli kandille??
Movie: Kadal Kadannoru Mathukutty
Theater: EKM- Cinemax
Show: 9.15 am, Aug 8 2013
Status: Around 60-70%
Had high expectations because of Mamootty-Ranjith combo after Pranchiyetan, but it never looked like a Ranjith movie. Felt he took the recent Sathyan Anthikad style of approach with a feel good 1st half, followed by an average 2nd half with a totally thatikootu climax.
It was a cakewalk for Mammootty and I felt he got more scope to perform in Bavootyude Naamathil. Nothing much to say about other cast, but felt Muthumani was the surprise package. Guest appearance with Mohanlal & actor Mammootty was the most interesting scene in the movie.
The only positive which I felt was there are no double meaning dialogs and it can be watched by family audiences without any problems. Have zero hopes, then you might find Mathukutty as an average watchable stuff.
Verdict: Just OK. Ranjith Dissapointed :(

Movie: Thalaiva
Theater: Kadinakulam- V Tracks
Show: 2.30 pm, Aug 9 2013
Status: Housefull
Did not get tickets in TVM since rush was so huge in all the 3 theaters. Few seats were available in V Tracks theater online site and it was the only option available. Had to travel around 28 km from my home to reach there and I felt the travel was worth after watching the movie because of 2 reasons: excellent theater and electrifying 1st day atmosphere.
Since the intial reviews were completely negative, did not have much expectations since I felt AL Vijay was not the right director to take a mass movie. But he did a decent job to produce an entertainer with the right mix of comedy, romance, action and sentiments. He could have kept an eye on the duration part (3 hours) as I felt some lag in second half. Urgent trimming needed in second half to make the movie racy.
As always in any Vijay movie, he was the complete show man and he has improved in emotional sequences also this time. Santhanam was in top form and Amala Paul had a decent role apart from the typical glam doll. Satyaraj and rest of the cast did a good job. Technically Nirva Shah's cinematogrpahy was strong while GV Prakash's BGM was effective only in parts.
Overall, Thalaiva does not offer any freshness and it's the same old Vijay formuala but it is not narrated as a typical paandi masala stuff, hence you might feel some lag in between.
Verdict: Time-pass. Treat for Vijay fans..

Movie: Neelakasham Pachakadal chuvanna bhoomi
Theater: TVM-Dhanya
Show: 11.15 am, Aug 11 2013
Status: Balcony-80%, 1st class- no idea
A road movie is something which is not familiar to malayalam cinema. Credits to Sameer Thahir for trying out such an attempt and he has a winner.
Dulqur Salman-Sunny Wayne combo works big time and forms the main highlight of the movie apart from stunning cinematography and background score. All other cast including the ones who appear in small roles performed well.
For me, first half was good and second half was above average since climax seemed to be a bit hurried. Also, the movie might appeal mostly to youth audience only as it's something that kind of a cinema which you will enjoy watching with your friends.
Overall, Neelakasham Pachakadal chuvanna bhoomi is a complete refreshing experience.
Verdict: Visual Treat
Rating: 3.25/5

Movie: Memories
Theater: TVM-Sreekumar
Show: 06.15 pm, Aug 11 2013
Status: 95%
This was one movie which met the expectations set since both Pritvi and director Jeethu Joseph are in good form now. Memories starts off slowly, then gains up the momentum and moves in the right pace to be a smart thriller.
The mode of investigation style might remind you of movies like Mukham, Grandmaster etc, but Jeethu Joseph has taken it well. Pritviraj is in the form of his life with excellent roles one after the other and 'Sam Alex' in Memories also will join the list of his best performances. His drunkard act never went out of the control and there were no extra heroism, punch dialogs, action to glorify him as a mass police officer.
Supporting cast did not have much scope to perform and it was a total Pritvi show all the way. Cinematography and backgrond score completely matched the mood of the movie.
Overall, Memories is a neat thriller and will stay in your memory for some time.
Verdict: Good
Rating: 3.5/5
