Festival Fare
It’s loaded with star power. So there will be a steady supply of action, drama, suspense, songs and everything else one would expect in a big ticket entertainer. Rajadhi Raja, Mammootty’s Onam release, promises to be the ultimate popcorn thrill-ride complete with shocker baddies and special cameos. “It’s a family-friendly entertainer, something that comes with a foolproof packing,” says director Ajay Vasudev.
Spiced with all the flamboyance of a festival entertainer, Rajadhi Raja revolves around its hero Shekharan Kutty. The film is set in Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, a petrol bunk on the highway where Shekharan Kutty works as the manager. “He is a complete family man who lives with his wife Radha and their daughter. Their life is so blissful till another person, Radha’s cousin Aiyyappan, makes his entry,” says Ajay. While Raai Laxmi appears on screen as Radha, Joju George plays Aiyyappan. “What follows is an intriguing blend of action, humour and drama,” he adds.
Ajay says the film has every ingredient to keep the audience glued including a dash of suspense. “But that doesn’t mean it’s a thriller,” he is quick to add. Ask him about the USP of the film and he says, “the highlight of the film is its script penned by scenarist duo Udayakrishna and Siby K Thomas. Moreover, it stars the hit pair of Mammootty and Raai Laxmi.” The film also has special song-and-dance sequences in which young actors Unni Mukundan and Shamna Kasim will be seen shaking a leg.
Rajadhi Raja also has an impressive cast featuring a couple of Bollywood actors including Mukesh Khanna and Rahul Dev. “We went for not-so-familiar faces since the screenplay demanded it,” says Ajay about the film that also stars Siddique and Lena in key roles.
Rajadhi Raja with its tagline ‘the king is back’ is also one film that banks on Mammootty’s stardom. “Yes, it’s a superstar film, at the same time it’s not a film just for Mammootty fans. It can be enjoyed by all sections and all age groups. The film hits the screen on September 5 and two days later, on Thiruvonam day, is Mammootty’s birthday. So coming weekend calls for double celebration for our entire team,” he says.
The film has its camera cranked by Shaji and music scored by Karthik Raja and Berny Ignatius. Rajadhi Raja produced by M K Nasser and Stanly C S under the banner of Goodline Productions hits the marquee this Friday.
