The new year started on a bright note. Mohanlal`s Jeethu Joseph directed Drishyam went on to become a mega blockbuster.
The film has not only received rave critical acclaim but also huge box-office success. It is now being remade in four Indian languages, which is a great recognition for Malayalam cinema.
Drishyam the blockbuster of gargantuan proportions is the highest collecting film in the history of Malayalam cinema. It is not only a hit in Kerala, but outside the state also the film is minting money.
Drishyam the family entertainer is the clear number one by a mile as it has grossed an incredible Rs 35 Crore in 50 days, which means a share of approximately Rs 16 crores! The nearest hit to it is Twenty:20 which collected a share of Rs 10 Crore during its lifetime run.
In the second place is last week`s release the Nazriya Nazim-Nivin Pauly starrer Ohm Shanthi Oshaana, which grossed an impressive Rs 1.90 Crore in its opening weekend.
At number three is the cricket film 1983, which has got a distributors` share of Rs 1.55 Crore in 10 days. The film has been appreciated for its freshness of subject and treatment. Nivin Pauly has two back to back hits.
In the fourth place is the Vijay-Mohanlal starrer Jilla, which took a flying start in Kerala . The grapevine has it that Max Lab who distributed the film in record number of screens made Rs 3.5 to Rs 4 Crore from the film.
And in the fifth position is Sathyan Anthikad`s Oru Indian Pranyakatha which took a share of approximately Rs 3.5 Crore in 50 days. The film was liked but could not stand up to the typhoon called Drishyam.
