In a sense Prakash Raj may be more apt for Karunanidhi's biopic in Iruvar, not due to his excellent dialogue delivery, but his skin colour. Mammookka as Karunanidhi wouldn't do justice to the character due to his skin colour.

Mammookka's Tamil is great too. He would have made those Karunanidhisque poetic dialogues a bit more glossy with his voice, dialogue delivery & voice modulation.

There must be a reason why Mammootty was Mani's first preference..

Eventually that worked for the character ....ellam nadakunathu nallathinu ennu parayumpole .....Prakash raj athil poetry dialogue aayi parayunathu okke kelkan nalla rasam annu ....being someone who is adept with Tamil language (Prakash raj kannadiga anelum .....his tamil n telugu is equally good) he was definitely a better choice than Mammooty.

I also think it didn't live upto expectation. May be MT & Hariharan are to blame more than Mammootty. Pazhassiye glorify cheyyunna scenes orukki Mammootty kk vilayadanulla scope MT yude script il undayirunnilla. May be MT had limitation being a biopic. MT had said that himself before. He didn't have the freedom he had when he wrote OVVG.

There was one scene where they could have taken it to another level. Mammootty facing his army and givin a motivational speech. That scene was a big let down for me. MT could have written a bit more powerful dialogues and Hariharan & Mammootty could have made it to more intense. Compare it to the scene in Troy where Brad Pitt gives a similar motivational speech. In Troy, you get goosebumps, here not really.

Absolutely no chance for Mani to show Karunanidhi in a bad light. Kalaingar was a colossal even at that time. He was not only a powerful politician, but a hugely respected script writer and poet. He was a hero to Tamilians even if some had differences with him, but never a villain.

He had a huge influence on Dravida movement through his films. His dialogues were too powerful. In fact, MGR benefitted a lot from his dialogues. (Just like Suresh Gopi is now an MP thanks to Ranji Panicker)

Yes.. athu thanneyavanam karanam... 'Anandham' enna peril thudangiya padam political pressures karanam 'Iruvar' aayi maariyathaanu... So initially the role would have been less important and also negative...
