GVM’s Yennai Arindhaal is the latest or may be his last installment in the cop series, but there’s no particular reason it should be. Though co-written by three most sorted-out storytellers, there's no obvious connection to passion & pride of a cop other than its focus on a middle-aged man who’ll punch and shoot anyone who comes in his way. There are few moments like shooting baddies in a lift and sending off goons who came to attack his home with mere looks. Being told in non-linear way, movie loses its charm midway with Ajith-Trisha scenes & song with Baby Anika. May be the scenes are essential for the climax buildup but it didn't work out the way it should.
Towards the last 30 minutes, the story becomes interesting & thrilling, and the cat & mouse game ends with the Arun Vijay's villainous performance as Victor outshining Ajith's Sathyadev. Arun Vijay is the real find of the movie. Vivek & few one liners by Ajith serve as comic relief. Anushka & Trisha fills up the two available heroine slot. Harris Jayaraj's BGM was medicore. YA is a far cry from GVM's previous cop outings, the sheepish fun of which lay in seeing Raghavan's & Anbuchelvan IPS’s rage being shaken out of their victories. But now it’s Sathyadev just hitting people over and over again. What a way to make an ambitious project to a tragedy!
