So true. Super star Malayalam movies don't even get 10 screens in Tamil Nadu. Single screens hardly show Malayalam movies.
In Karnataka and Andhra, they are giving limited screens to non-regional movies. In Kerala, We are trying to kill ourselves.
To be honest, I didn't see anything creative in these hyped Tamil movies. Same formula - One mass song, 3 other songs, 6 fights, violence. Same formula for years.
Even educated Tamil people don't like them. However we are completely forgetting our root to promote these hyped movies. It is like insulting your own mother for the sake of step mother.
The biggest culprit is Kerala Government. Whether it is left or right, our leaders don't have the guts. They don't care about the long term impact of this culture. Just making some
minor changes to the tax structure will encourage theaters to show Malayalam movies.
Bengali movie market is really big. Bengal is a huge state - bigger than TN, Bengalis are majority in many Assam districts. Tripura has 90% Bengali population. Good international market. They killed themselves their industry. No Government support for years , and Bollywood is so dominating in Bengal.
In Maharashtra rural theaters are very limited and it was a problem. However the industry got revived in the last 10 years. Maharashtra theaters are forced to show Marathi movies at prime time.
Punjabi movie industry is going through its best time. Very popular in UK and Canada market too.
Other regional industries were not at all strong. Very limited releases.
Malayalam maintained its uniqueness during the last 60 years through its quality and talent. We are going to lose that because of the frequent fractional fight and lack of Government support.
