You can declare a film below 10 cr as a flop. Thats upto you but the movie will not be a flop. For me Varisu and PS2 kind of films are clean flops which brought losses to Kerala distributors.

Forget about the under 10 cr grossed movies. In the 6 months of 2023, malayalam cinema couldn't event make 5 movies that collected over 15 crore.. That is truly an embarassment. The ol movies you call flops are the 3rd and 5th highest grossers. And that's because the distributor paid a little bit more. When these flop ol movies occupy the top grosser position, it shows what a bad year the industry is having.
And not all industries struggle like ours, look at tamil film industry. They have had an excellent year till now and only seem to get better. At least let's hope the second half is better.

Even if second year produces super hits and blockbusters those who speak negative about our industry will speak negative. You only said that you are staying in Tamil Nadu . So naturally you will have a tendency to support your industry(Tamil).

Anything which makes a loss to the distributors is a flop no matter how much ever you try to cover up the facts. And why did the distributor pay more? Are they fools? They are all businessmen. They expected that these two movies will get positive reviews in kerala but both of them opened to average to negative reviews. So naturally they did not collect as much as they expected in kerala

Ningal 5 crore and 10 crore hits ne ketti pidich irunnolu.. Actual lovers of malayalam cinema will want bigger hits.. They'll want to see malayalam movies occupying the top 10 positions in kbo.
You are just being cynical here..just because I live in tn, I support tamil cinema? What nonsense is that? Tamil cinema ended up having two of their movies in kbo top 5 grosser list for this year. If it was a telugu movie also, I would have maintained the same..2 flop tamil movies are among the top 5 grossers of kbo, if that isn't embarrassing for you as a malayalam movie fan then I have nothing to say. Your expectations from malayalam cinema is minimal, so you are happy with the 5cr hits. Good for you.
And what I said about tamil cinema isn't glorifying either.
