Guppy - UP THERE WITH THE BEST OF 2016!!!


I was all excited for the release of this movie primarily because this was the first release for an official thread of a movie I started it our very own forumkeralam. The more I came to know about the film over the past few days, the excietement grew leaps and bounds. I wanted to watch it on the very first day and here goes my views of this brilliant film




The movie is about 'Guppy' the title character played by master Chethan who had stunned us with his amazing performance in 5 sundarikal. He takes care of his mother as his father had passed away some years back. One of the strong point of the movie is the very touching relation between guppy and his mother. The only source of the income for them was by selling 'Guppy' , the fish to the needy in urban areas . If you are not aware already, 'Guppy' is a fresh water fish that eats mosquito larvae and eggs and thus helps reduce the spead of malaria and to control the mosquitoes. Meanwhile an engineer, Tejus Varkey, played by Tovino is appointed to oversee the construction of a railway overbridge in 'Guppy's' hometown. The turbulent relation of Guppy and Tejus Varkey leads into a turn of events which form the crux of the movie. Watch the film to see how it unfolds as I dont want to reveal much about the plot.


Debutant director John Paul George had done a quite remarkable job with this one.His director was top notch and surely place him in the elile list of debutant directors whom the film lovers would watch out for their next move.
In fact he has scripted this film as well.Have to say that this film has a lot of soul in it which will make you smile, cry and lil tensed at times...all in a very honest,gentle and pleasant manner


This film has been taken into a whole new level by the short but stunning songs which are placed quite brilliantly and also the background scores. I am sure one of these song will be my ringtone for quite some time eagerly waiting for the songs to get released. Also hats of to Girish Gangadaran who cranked the camera. Fantastic work here as well. Beautiful locations adds to the pleasing feel that we get while watching this film


Coming to the performances, master Chetan as Guppy, starts from where he left off in 5 sundarikal. In fact he had outdone what he did in 5 sundarikal with a really strong performance. This was seen as the launch pad of Tovino as a star and he has done his part very well as well. I wish that the film gets lots of attention from everyone out there and hopefully we have a new star here The other cast had been brilliant as well, I just cannot name one performance that had gone bad. Sreenivasan, Alancier, lady who played Guppy's mother, kids in Guppy's boy gang , Sudeer karamana, Dileesh Pothan, etc was not just good but terrific.


The location, art direction, costumes all had a fresh feel that adds to the beauty of the film.


Probably the only negative I could say is some lag that is felt at times, but honestly thats something I can really ignore considering how much this film satisfied me in the end


So why wait..JUST GO WATCH IT ASAP
