Amazed to see Kanchana Amma among the list of state award winners. Hard work of the crew has been paid off.

First things First.

I had not heard of this movie even a week before its release. On Friday I happened to get see good reviews on "GUPPY" which I wanted to watch in theaters but missed due to hectic schedule. The FB post made by Tovino regarding GUPPY was a real eye opener. Meanwhile saw the good reviews for OLAPPEEPPI and instantly decided to watch it on big screen.

The movie shows the lead character coming back to his native, with his family and re-lives his old life. Most of the movie is in Flash back mode which shows the childhood of the male lead and the immense bonding with his grandmother. The child has been handed over to the grandmother by his parents and she takes care of him despite all the struggles to meet both the ends. The movie portrays various socio-economic scenarios in Kerala during the late 60s and 70s.

Regarding the cast, a ton of thanks to Biju Menon for accepting this role. At least his presence has helped the movie to get some attention (Remember how DQ saved Ann Maria movie) from viewers and media. Few of the actors are facing camera for the first time and look amateurish at times. The big surprise in the movie is Kanchana and Master Dev who excelled as the grandmother and the boy respectively. The bonding between the two has been portrayed very well and really touches the heart. The supporting cast also did a commendable job. Few scenes are extremely good enough to make you shed some drops of tears.

Krish Kymal, the director has left his signature all over the movie. Thanks to his cinematography skills and the colour tones used brilliantly. The village and the 70s have been shown well.

Overall, Olappeeppi is not just a movie. It is a magical journey which takes you back to many things you miss in your life. The dose of nostalgia is apt and the movie walks straight into your heart and will remain there for a long period.

You respect the effort of cast and crew of the movie, when you pay for it in theater. Not when you download the torrent over the internet and watch it. So Please spend money from pocket and watch it in theater. Perhaps one ticket of yours can make the movie cross the holdover limit and get an extended run. Think. Think. Think.
