Pentecostal denominations popped up around the early 20th century, 100 years ago or so.
Compared to other Apostolic churches such as the Latin Catholic, Eastern Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox churches have an almost 2000 year old history.
The most important thing for the apostolic churches is the Eucharist (called as Mass in English or Qurbana in Suriyani/Malayalam). Wherein they eat the actual body and blood of Christ through the host and wine. This liturgy is a highly formal event. People stand, sit, bow, kneel etc.
Whereas the Pentecostals, in their worship style, get highly emotional and do all sorts of stuff. So called "praise and worship" can get a bit whacky and people can be dancing around, or jumping or crying or speaking in some bizarre language etc. They do not have a Eucharist and do not believe in it. But they believe people getting over emotional and whacky during the prayer service is the work of the Holy Spirit (third person of the Trinity). So the worship styles are over the top and informal... And I don't think they have formal buildings such as a church. This so called worship style is known as "Charismatic" and even the Catholic church accepted this worship service as ok in the 70s and even Charismatic Catholics popped up then. Certain Catholic "dhyanams" have a charismatic touch.
And in a Kerala context, I don't think Pentecostal groups are as powerful as they are so small and popped up rather recently. So overall they are a new "sambhavam". Definitely they are more unconventional in their practices compared to the apostolic churches.
