What do you think about the female character that Mammootty says the dialog to? Don't you think she deserves such a dialog? Or should Mammootty have said to her "I respect women" like in the movie Masterpiece?

honestly, i have never cared to justify mammooty the person in this forum..u can check my posting history... have only debated on his acting side... here my issue is i find that she has purposefully cherry picked Mammootty to drag him into a controversy rather than actually inviting the attention on the issue at a larger scale... this is how i understand it....

I agree with you that many people, myself included, watch movies for the entertainment value and not as a personal guide to how I should think or should live my life. But that doesn't mean that anything and everything the makers do or portray in the name of entertainment is tasteful or appropriate. This is especially true and important for matters that involve how people treat people of different genders, races, religions, and backgrounds. A non-misogynistic person won't change their mindset or behavior with a movie. But you cannot deny that there is a section of the audience in society who are misogynistic... and when this type of material is portrayed as cool and clap-worthy in a movie that caters to these masses, the makers are sending those people the wrong message that their thoughts and behaviors are acceptable.

If one sees misogyny in society as wrong and something that should not be encouraged in real life interactions, then why would using it in a movie to get appreciative claps and applause ever be acceptable to someone?

there r lot of film glorifying theft and celbrating villainsm on screen, conveniently calling it anti-hero... i assume that is more dangerous to the society as a whole than misogyny....
even a film like drishyam has its glorification of anti-social norms... umpteen examples... mysogyny in kasaba is not the first time i the hostory of malayalm cinema..

Now this brings me to the difference between Kasaba and the Irfan video. I've already mentioned how I feel Kasaba glorifies misogyny in the way the scene was decorated with BGM, slow motion, and the celebratory applause that it was meant to elicit from the crowds at the time of release. But please describe exactly what in the Irfan video glorifies his character and his dialogue? Are we supposed to clap and whistle when he says the "hot in bed" line? No---we are meant to be disgusted and repelled by it, just like the female character is in that portion. There is a huge, blatantly obvious difference between having a character in a scene with negative traits that the makers present as undesirable v. having a character in a scene with negative traits that the maker presents as applaudable.

The lady in Kasaba had an intetnion to seduce R Zachariya.. thats how it is shown in the film.. so do we have women in our society who tries to seduce men or not? or is it just a male fantasy? have u seen the film in whole? r there any scenes where Zachariya shows respect to woman? or u havent seen it at all?
The irfan scene can easily be seen as being too cool... its cool to say "woman of certain class r hot in bed"... glorifcation necessarily do not mean that it has to be accomoanied by a swag BGM and clpas from the crowd...

the bottom point is how u percieve it... u have conveniently, to support ur argument, chosen to see the irfan scene as something very admirable..

Now, you can hate Parvathy all you want for her "lack of character," and repeat a million other reasons why you think she was just trying to target Mammooty (i.e. she only mentioned Kasaba in the forum, etc.). But when other people try to explain why they think at least some of her argument is valid (on top of ackowledging that Kasaba is definitely not the only film guilty of this type of thing), the response on here has also been to just repeatedly dismiss that person as sharing the same "agenda." At that point, it's obvious that your major issue is that someone called out a film of your favorite superstar and you can't/don't want to see past that.

so u conclude that if i say parvathy had an agenda when she raised this issue, i hate her.. but i should believe that u do not have any grudge against Mammooty when u write such insightful essays :)...
dear, i have nothing against paravthy... misogyny is there in our cinema and kasaba if at all, is not the start or end of it.... there r various other glorifications in our cnema that requires much urgent attention i wud say...
u like to concentrate on the misogyny part, but arent others allowed to see the "percieved agenda" in this whole set up? why does it always have to be a thing of fanship?
