OVVG was huuuuuuuuuuuuuge....it had an unbelievably great run in A, B and C class theatres.
Even I had watched it 4 times from Thrissur Ragam, twice from B class theatres and thrice from C class theatres. Can you believe? 9 times from theatres within 1 year of it's release...and you know...it was not an exception. OVVG മൂന്നു തവണയെങ്കിലും കാണാത്ത moovybuffs ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല ആ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ. I was in the last year of my teens and a second year Medical student at Thrissur Medical College. അന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾ എത്രയോ പേർ രാഗത്തിൽ നിന്നും multiple times സിനിമ കണ്ടിട്ടൂം പിന്നീട് കോളേജിനടുത്തുള്ള C class theatresൽ നിന്നും OVVG repeat ആയി കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. OVVG കാണുക, വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും കാണുക എന്നത് ആ കാലത്തെ ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗം തന്നെയായിരുന്നു...a part of life.
കോഴിക്കോട് സംഘം തിരുവനന്തപുരം കൃപ, എറണാകുളം (I am not sure of the Ernakulam theatre of OVVG) തൃശ്ശൂർ രാഗം....ഇവിടെയെല്ലാം extremely long run ആയിരുന്നു OVVG.
I don't have figures, but I don't need it anyway...I believe that no movie released between 1988 and 1990 would have collected more than OVVG. There would have been more profitable movies probably like Ramji Rao speaking, Chithram, CBI Diarykkurippu etc...because of the higher production cost of OVVG, but it would have collected more.
Despite the production cost, OVVG had made an extremely good profit as well.
തനിക്ക് ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ലാഭമുണ്ടാക്കി തന്നിട്ടുള്ള സിനിമ OVVG ആണെന്ന് ശ്രീ പി വി ഗംഗാധരൻ തന്നെ പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.
സുജാത, അങ്ങാടി, വാർത്ത, വീണ്ടും ചില വീട്ടുകാര്യങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയ സിനിമകളുടെയും നിർമ്മാതാവാണ് അത് പറഞ്ഞത് എന്നുകൂടി നമ്മൾ ഓർക്കണം.

One of the two greatest movies of Malayalam Cinema.
