Story was initially liked by Lal although he shelved the project due to the very much dark tone of the movie and suggested to Unni to write a colurful entertainer instead of it. That way aarattu was bornt. Later Ukri team approached to mammootty with same subject. Mammootty liked the title role. The initial script had many shots outside the kerala. later they cut the all shots were planned outside the kerala. friends, is it true?????

Ukri dark under tone = villain appearing in dim lit surroundings + hero wearing dark clothing, that's it!
