Minnal Murali (2021)
If only all superhero origin films were so dynamic, arresting and realistic.
Minnal Murali is a truly remarkable film, and it cleverly engages the needs of this genre with great enthusiasm. The Superhero elements in the film are interesting, but it's the well-drawn characters and convincing performances that keep it engaging.
Tovino is absolutely riveting, and the direction of Basil Joseph gives time for our titular character to breathe, and still deliver coherent action set pieces. The script is funny, dramatic and zips along at a gradual pace. Minnal Murali is such an exciting, refreshing development in Malayalam filmmaking that I want to shout it from the rooftops.
For now, let's just sit back and enjoy a film that comes along all too rarely, a film that will reignite your love of celluloid.
Wholesome!
