We won't allow 'Sivaji' screening – fanatic Kannadigas

Kannada actor Vishnuvardhan's shooting in Ooty is going on peacefully. 'Kuppi,' the Tamil remake of Kannada film 'Cyanide' is running peacefully in Tamilnadu.

But Kannada fanatics seem to be targeting theatres screening Tamil films. Theatres in Bangalore's Malleswaram screening 'Mozhi' and 'Koodal Nagar' have been vandalized. The Kannada fanatics of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedika have announced that they will not allow screening of 'Sivaji.'

The Karnataka govt does not seem to pay heed to these acts perpetrated by the Vedika's leader Narayana Gowda. "'Sivaji' has dialogues that praises Tamils and Tamilnadu. We (Kannadigas) cannot tolerate that. So we will not allow 'Sivaji' to be screened anywhere in Karnataka. Till a solution has been found for the Cauvery issue, we will not allow any Tamil films to be screened in Karnataka," says this rebel organization.

This is a blow to those who were banking on making profits through 'Sivaji.' The Vice President of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce says he could ask the CM, Kumarasamy for protection for screening of 'Sivaji.' That's like jumping from the pot into the fire since Kumarasamy has stated that he would rather give up his CM post than give water to Tamilnadu.

Rajini is the hero of 'Sivaji' and hails from Karnataka. He has once bowed before Rajkumar who brought all Kannadigas against Tamils. It was he who by undertaking his solo fasting, diluted the Tamil cinema technicians' joint protest on Cauvery issue at Neyveli.

Being someone who always raises his voice against Tamilnadu chief ministers, his loyalty will come into question if he does not speak out against the Kannada protagonists.

'Bhima' is a heart touching story – Lingusamy

'Bhima' starring Vikram is complete. It has been made with a heady mix of action packed scenes and heart rending sentiment. After the colossal success of 'Anandam,' 'Run' and 'Sandakozhi,' this film has been produced y AM Rathnam.

The first strength of the film is the coming together of Vikram and Lingusamy in this project. Vikram is one who seeks new challenges in acting in every film and 'Bhima' has given him ample scope for his talent. Ever since he heard the story from Lingusamy, Vikram has slowly transformed himself into Bhima. Since Trisha is pairing up with Vikram again after 'Samy,' the romance chemistry is also quite hot.

"For something to work out, all correct elements have to come together. Vikram is a great actor and has mass hero appeal. For him as well as for me, this movie will be a matter of great pride and distinction. Bhima's another great strength is the Raghuvaran, Ashish Vidyarthi and Prakashraj combination," says Lingusamy.

So, what is the story?

"This is about getting into the underworld life in a mix of action and sentiment. The film portrays not only the dark side of the underworld, but its tender moments too. The style of making will definitely make people turn back and pay attention. That's because of my technical team. Harris Jayaraj, RD Rajasekhar, Antony, Kanal Kannan and Rajivan are each giants in their own fields. This is so evident in the film," says Lingusamy.

Harris Jayaraj has composed 6 beautiful songs. One of them has been picturised on grand set put up in Madurai's Nayak Mahal. One foot tapping kuthu song has been picturised in mid sea in Tuticorin, where Shireen has danced with gusto. One song is to be shot in Austria.

Simran makes a come back!

Many of the young directors introduced by RB Chowdhry are not in the film field today. Madhuravan of 'Poo Magal Oorvalam' has only now got a break after a very time. Kavi Kalidas is another example of someone who has been waiting for ages for a break.

A disciple of Bhagyaraj, the first film of Kavi Kalidas was 'Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen.' It was the first grand production of Super Good Films featuring Ajith and Simran. But it ran only for 2 weeks. That brought Kavi Kalidas' dabbling in art to a standstill.

Heartbroken, he took to liquor and eventually went back to settle down in his home town. Now Bhagyaraj has given him hope and brought him back to Kodambakkam.

Kavi Kalidas is back to being his normal self. He will be directing a new film featuring Chowdhry's son Ramesh. Simran has been asked for her call sheet. She has not confirmed her acceptance, nor has she turned down the offer.

Simran is right now acting for an ad with Prakashraj. When she comes to Chennai for that, she will hear the story and then convey her decision to Kavi Kalidas.

It will most probably be a green signal.

Is Meera Jasmine the shrewdest and most calculative heroine in South cinema? She knows how to get things done, without making a hue and cry over it. This has worked to Meera’s advantage as she remains afloat with her kitty full of projects.
Recently the actress received bouquets and brickbats for her role as a pot maker opposite S J Suryah in Tirumagan. Though she did a commendable performance, purists in Kerala, her home town, thought that the girl-next-door image that she has in Malayalam industry was tarnished.

But Meera is unperturbed with such comments and soldiers on with the right mix of commercial films in Tamil and Telugu and art-house meaningful films in Malayalam.

Now, she is also looking forward to the house warming of her new bungalow on Vishu Day (April 15) in Kadavanthara, a suburb of Kochi. “Vybhavam” is her dream home and the buzz is that this 4000 sq feet palatial bungalow has a home theatre and cost a whopping Rs 1.5 Crore!

She has completed Parattai with Dhanush and has signed Nepali with Bharath. In Malayalam her Vinodayatra with Dileep is releasing today and she is shooting with Mammootty for award winning director Shyamaprasad’s Ore Kadal. She is also doing a Telugu and Kannada film with top stars.

Arjun jumps from 10th floor for 'Marudhamalai'

"After 10 years, I'm happy with my work in 'Marudhamalai' says Arjun with the happiness of having had a satisfactory meal.

Having been assistant to Sundar C, Swaraj directs this film after 'Thalainagaram.' One can guess at the grandeur of the film as it is being produced by Oscar Ravichandran.

The story takes place in the southern districts and Arjun has the role of a police inspector. His 2 heroines are Nila and Tamanna. Hima Khan, who was heroine of the Telugu 'Pokkiri,' has done a dance number in this. Lal plays the villain role.

Since the hero is a cop, would this be a serious film?

"No, not at all. Vadivelu will have you in splits with his comedy. The Arjun-Vadivelu combination has worked out well. The first half is comedy, the second half has action and the film is spice dup here and there with glamour. It is a masala mix that will go down well with the viewers," says the director.

This is the most expensive of Arjun's films. The song featuring Arjun-Vadivelu and Hima Khan has been shot in a market set put up at the Binny Mills in north Chennai.

This song is sure to make viewers want to tap their feet too. Two songs have been shot in Venice.

Not only the songs, but the action scenes are grand too. In a car chase shot in Mumbai, Arjun has himself jumped down from the 10th floor and astounded everyone. It was picturised by popular Bollywood stunt master Al Ameer who has composed stunts for many films including 'Dhoom II.'

On the whole, 'Marudhamalai' promises to be an entertaining film.
