Eros denies rumours that Rana is shelved!

There were rumours making the rounds in Kollywood that Rajinikanth’s mega big budget period project Rana has been shelved.

In fact the grapevine had it that director KS Ravikumar and Rajinikanth had a meeting in which they decided to drop the project.
They felt under Rajinikanth’s present health situation it would not be wise to continue with the period drama which required strenuous
horse riding and action scenes.

Instead Rajinikanth and Ravikumar wanted to do a soft mass family drama like their earlier Muthu and Padayappa.
Remember the superstar developed health problems during the pooja of Rana and was hospitalised for a brief period in Chennai before being flown to Singapore for further treatment.
Meanwhile Eros the producers of Rana have denied that it has been shelved. They say that the film will start rolling in November.

Hansika confirms Vettai Mannan with STR

Hansika has confirmed that she is doing STR’s Vettai Mannan.

Earlier, Deeksha Seth was signed to play the second lead . Says Hansika : “ Yes I have signed the film with STR, as the script looks exciting and I have an important role in it.”
Vettai Mannan is an out and out STR mass masala film directed by Nelson with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

The film is being made by leading producer Nic Arts ** Chakravarthy, who has given many Ajith hits in the past.

And with Hansika joining the project its commercial value has increased.

Vettai Mannan is an action packed thriller in which STR has negative shades as he plays a professional hit man.

The grapevine has it that Hansika will play a a role (a gangster?) different from the bubbly ones she has done so far, which will be very glamorous.

The movie has Jai in a pivotal role along with Santhanam.

Producers to approach K-Town superstars to share their tax burden



After the recent decision by the government to introduce a 30% tax on the DTH, films, IPL and such forms of entertainment in Tamil Nadu, Kollywood film producers are in a major quandary.
This is not expected to impact ticket prices immediately, so the common man will be spared. However, producers will have to make an allowance for 30% in their profit sharing.
Our source says, “Earlier, the profits of the box office were shared equally between the exhibitor and the producer. Now, they have to give the Government a 30% cut.”
Producers are now going to forward a proposal to superstars in the Ajith, Suriya, Vijay league to take a price cut because the recent Government decision is being viewed as the last straw that broke the camel’s back. Says a producer, “We cannot cut costs on hiring film equipment; locations also come with fixed hire charges. The only place where we can hope to cut costs is in the remuneration charged by the top stars and technicians. If they don’t co-operate, many a film producer will find himself buckling under pressure and may even be forced to shut shop. So, producers are definitely going to approach the superstars and celebrity technicians to please take a fee cut and stop us from bleeding.”
